Our families come from Arkansas, Indiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia and dates back to 1895 in Kansas.   We also came from Austria, Ireland, Scotland, Hungary, Germany, and England. Traditionally, the last name can tell a lot about your heritage.  The last name often told where you came from and the class of your family.  We haven’t kept that tradition; and so it isn’t as easy to tell much about a person from their last name these days.

Bingham

Our Bingham Connection is through my late mother in law, Anna Ruth Bingham

My Spouse’s Family Bingham ~ Buckley ~ Hoschouer ~ Newberry~Herrington ~ Hickcox ~ Hutchinson ~ Madison ~ Monroe ~

Most of this information was found using Ancestry.com and Genforum.  Some of this information comes from Phillip Smith, a distant cousin.  I've emailed him to obtain more information as to his sources and am waiting on a reply.  Some of this information comes from the research of a cousin, Brian McCullum, and I am checking on those sources also.  Thanks to these people and a little hard work on my part, I've been able to put this Family tree page together.

The Bingham family can trace their ancestors back to the ancient territories of England between the 11th and 12th centuries. The Bingham family traces their ancestral roots back to Anglo Saxon origin, and first appeared in ancient medieval records in Somerset . Find a more In depth account on the Bingham Family History Scroll. That from very early on the Bingham family not only held lands and estates in England but were also actively allied with other influential families. They also branched out into other territories and holdings

Our Bingham family is from Lafayette County, Missouri and can trace their ancestors back to Ireland

Bingham NAME

·         English: habitational name from a place in Nottinghamshire called Bingham, from an unattested Old English clan name, Binningas, or an Old English word bing ‘(a) hollow’ + Old English hām ‘homestead’.

·         Jewish (American): Americanized form of various like-sounding habitational names such as Bingenheimer.

·         The Bingham family of Melcombe Bingham in Dorset can trace their descent back to Robert de Bingham, recorded in 1273, who probably came from Bingham in Nottinghamshire. His descendants included the Earls of Lucan. A branch of the family was established in Ireland, where they gave their name to Binghamstown in County Mayo. Sir Richard Bingham (c.1528–99) was Marshal of Ireland. Charles Bingham (1735–99) was created earl of Lucan in 1795.

Our Bingham Family Tree

John A. BINGHAM (Abt 1835-1869) may have been born in Dublin, Ireland or was born in Maryland.  I've been told that John immigrated to the U. S. from Dublin, Ireland, but have no further information about that.  So, this is uncertain.  Supposedly Buried in Metalton, Carroll, AR.  However, the only grave that comes close to fitting this person, was in the Old Rosemont Cemetery, Benton Saline County Arkansas USA.  That John was born in 1829; so further investigation will be done.  John Married Sarah Ann COATNEY (1840-unknown)  If this death date is correct, he was only 39 years old.  Sarah She was the daughter of James W. Coatney (b. 1878)  and Nancy Ann.  Sarah had at least one brother:  William W. Coatney was born in 1840 in Newton County, Missouri. He was the son of James W. and Nancy Ann Coatney. His family lived in Newton and Barry Counties during his early life. Sarah Coatney was married several times.  Another sources states he Lafayette County, Missouri was home to both Binghams and Coatney.  I'm finding that Barry County, Missouri is much more prominent for this line.  John was probably married more than once, this is still being researched.  There are some Bingham names listed in Sabine's account about Loyalists, and I am researching this further.  Another source states that the Bingham family were among the first Scotch-Irish settlers of the Cumberland valley of Pennsylvania during the mid-1700's, these may be relations. Most were members of the early Presbyterian churches founded at Big Spring, Middle Spring, and Rocky Spring.

  • Married: ABT 1856

o   Louisana, b 1863, AR

o   Peter, b 1866., AR

o   Nancy Jane, b Mar 1869, Osage TWP, Carroll, AR

Other Possible mother for Mansfield Bingham: Another source indicates that Mansfield was the child of John Bingham and Sarah Walker not Sarah Coatney.  Mansfield Bingham (1/11/1861-10/16/1949) born Little Beaver, Douglas, Missouri.  Married Easter Madaline Johnston b 4/13/1861-62 d 5/22/1921 mo., she was the daughter of Ruth Jordan & William K Johnston

Other Information:

Per Mansfield Bingham's death certificate is Mother's name was Sarah WALKER and Father's name was John Bingham. He was born 1-11-1861 in Arkansas, died 11-16-1949 in Reynolds Co. MO, buried at Redford Cemetery, next to his wife, Easter.  I understand Sarah bingham married John c. Johnston but have no idea when or where. I noticed on the 1870 Carroll Co. ARK census that Sarah is living in the household with John Johnston as his wife along with 7 kids, the youngest being Robert lee Johnston 5 months old. Now next door to them is a household beginning with Sarah bingham, 13 years old, along with Wm. Bingham 11, Mansfield 8, Mary 10, Louisiana 7, Peter 4, and nancy 5 months. I'm wondering about the two 5 month old infants living in separate households.  In the 1880 Carroll co. ARK census house #140 begins with John Johnston 21 (brother), 3 sisters, 1 brother and Sarah 48 as Mother. Next house is mansfield Bingham 19 and living with him are owen J. Birt 27 with his wife and 2 kids.

William W. Coatney was born in 1840 in Newton County, Missouri. He was the son of James W. and Nancy Ann Coatney. (Brother of Sarah Ann Coatney-who married John Bingham above)  His family lived in Newton and Barry Counties during his early life.  William married Sarah Ellen Panel 3 March 1862 in Barry County, Missouri. They divorced in September 1868. Their children were: James C., William, John and Sarah Ellen "Nellie" Coatney.  William married Nancy J. Morrison about 1869. Their children were: Roxana, Joseph, Nancy, Robert, Frank, Burton and Brother Coatney.

Obituary Wm Coatney, Sr, father of Wm Coatney of this city was killed at Monett by a switch engine July 28, 1903. Courtney died 26 July 1903, services were at home of Bingham at 9 AM, cause of death was railroad accident, occupation a laborer, age was 64 years old. Body was shipped to Corsicana.

Clara Anna NEWBERRY was born 11 JUL 1881 in Arkansas, USA, and died 12 DEC 1964 in at her home, Route 1, Huntsville, Madison Co., Arkansas,USA. She was buried 16 DEC 1964 in Huntsville Cem., Huntsville, Madison Co., Arkansas, USA. (I thought she was buried in Concordia, KS, so I will have to check this info) She was the daughter of 2. Jackson Jechonias NEWBERRY and 3. Elizabeth JONES. She married David Mansfield BINGHAM 26 MAR 1899 in Barry Co., Missouri, USA, son of William Robinson BINGHAM and Lucy Minerva RIGNEY. He was born 16 JAN 1879 in Purdy, Barry Co., Missouri, USA, and died 30 APR 1941 in Indiahoma, Comanche Co., Oklahoma, USA. He was buried MAY 1941 in IOOF Cem., Indiahoma, Comanche Co., Oklahoma, USA. She married Will A. HARRINGTON ABT 1912. He was born SEP 1850 in Illinois, USA

David later fell in love with Clara's first cousin (Minnie Mae Smith “Daisy”).  They ran off and married and had ten children.   They moved to Indiahoma, Oklahoma (his father, William Robinson Bingham's childhood home) to raise their family.  Some of their children later moved to National City, California.  Clara never spoke of him after he left.  And who could blame her, she was left with two small babies to raise on her own. So, the story is a mystery we are trying to uncover.  I know there are some Newberry’s in Nebraska that are related and may know who some people in some old family photos are.  I haven’t been able to locate them, though.  Ruth use to tell me that they were in Nebraska and she had met them.

Anna Ruth Bingham (1932-2008) married Jimmy Wilford Grow of Atlanta, KS about 1951.  They had 3 boys, but were divorced about 1955.  He was later killed in a car accident as he swerved to miss a bus full of school kids.  So, the boys never really knew their Dad.  Ruth married Richard Welliver, was divorced and married Warren Rude. Ruth and her sister Virginia both married the Grow boys from Atlanta, KS.  So their children were "double cousins" and shared Aunts, Uncles, Grandmas, and Grandpas.  But, honestly, the Bingham Family as a whole is a very close family, so all the cousins grew up very close in the younger years; and The Bingham family reunion was started back in the late 70s or early 80s to maintain the closeness and join the entire family together even though many had married, had children and moved away.

Our Family loves to make memories together and save them in our hearts forever

Photographs are a way to capture memories and save them in our hearts, so we can bring those memories alive forever.  Photos give you a peek into yesterday.  They are of times gone by.  They bring back memories, some good some we wish we could forget.  But, they are all memories; which do help us remember our past so that we can live in the present and work to a better future for tomorrow.

Preserving Memories of family times forever
