Introduction
The Page's Webmaster and Acknowledgments
Late in 2000 I realised that I knew very little about my family. My mother,
Mary O’Hagan, had told me an uncle of hers had emigrated to New Zealand from
Northern Ireland in the 1920’s, and so the quest began. I have managed to
piece together the O’Hagan family and my wife’s family (the Barlows) but have
had almost no success with the Groome family.
This site has been designed by John, with a little
help from his friends and family.
Special thanks to Beryl Young, whose research into the Holmes family has been
invaluable; Kevin O'Hagan, for the Ballymena O'Hagan information; Kathy
Bennett (nee O'Hagan) for the New Zealand line; without them some of this
would not be possible.

About the Family Roots
The Groome family is reputed to come from Dublin
but I have suspicions at present. It is possible the family originated in
Germany (name possibly Grum), came to the English Midlands, on to Northern
Ireland before settling in Dublin. I am currently working on this!
The Barlows originated in England (Gloucestershire) emigrating to New Zealand
in the mid 19th Century.
The O’Hagans are from Newtowncrommelin, Co.
Antrim, N.I.
