Grono Family Reunion 2007
This will not only mark the 208th anniversary of the arrival of the John and Elizabeth Grono and family to Australia on the HMS Buffalo but also the 200th anniversary of the arrival of David Hartley to Australia on the Duke of Portland in 1807. The order of events for the reunion day is:
For those of you who may be staying in the area for a few days, some places of interest are: Hawkesbury Regional MuseumContains exhibits on local history, in particular has information on John Grono, and items owned by the Grono family on display.
Hawkesbury Central LibraryContains an excellent family and local history section.
HELPERS NEEDED FOR THE REUNION!!!!!We are looking for a few people to assist on the day of the reunion. (The main task will be to assist on the registration table). If you are able to spare some time please contact us. Thank you.
Publications"John Grono 1767 - 1847: Our Old Colonial Neptune" by Robert TaylorRobert has kindly allowed the Grono Family Association to publish his research into John Grono’s naval experience, ship building, owning, and captaining.
The book will be launched at our Reunion in May and should be available to purchase (or order) from that date.
Funds raised from the sale of this book will be divided between Ebenezer Church, Hawkesbury Museum, and restoration of Grono Family Graves. Reprint of "Two Hawkesbury Sailors" by the Grono-Books AssociationAdvance orders are now being taken for the second edition of "Two Hawkesbury Sailors" by the Grono-Books Association. To place an order (or for further information) please call Ted Books on either (02) 4577 3932 or 0415 901 159, or send us an email and we will forward your message on to Ted. Book proceeds will go towards restoration of the Grono Family Vault in the church ground at Ebenezer Uniting Church.
Grono Family Association CommitteeThere are a few changes…. Karen Mills has agreed to take on the roll of Coordinator of the Grono Family Association. Robert Taylor has resigned from active participation on the Committee but will still provide assistance on research queries. We would like to thank Robert for his efforts in establishing the Grono Family Association.The Committee consists of the following:
Membership FeeFrom May 6, 2007 we will be asking for a membership fee for the Grono Family Association (GFA) of $20 which provides 2 years membership (membership runs from 1 May 2007 until 30 April 2009). The purpose of this fee is to assist in paying the administration costs of the GFA. Any surplus funds will be donated between Ebenezer Church, Hawkesbury Museum and maintenance of Grono Family gravesites (as the need arises). Please note that no member of the Grono Family Association committee is remunerated for their activities, the committee positions are voluntary and done in our spare time. The GFA remains a not-for-profit organisation. Only members of the Grono Family Association will continue to receive our Newsletters after the reunion.
Future PlansWe are hoping that for 2009 we will be able to publish a new, accurate Grono Family Tree publication. For this to occur we need your help. We are looking for submissions of accurate family trees to compile this. Also we would like to include stories about the lives, at this stage, of John Grono’s children and grandchildren.
