I believe that Richard Edmundson b. 1805 SC was the brother of George Washington Edmondson (Alcey Watkins’ 1st spouse).

It is my feeling that Richard’s wife, Margaret b. 1805 NC/SC, was the daughter of James and Jereimah (Holden?) Barron.  Richard & Margaret were married in the Cherokee Nation (Union County, GA) by 1834.

The Watkins, Holdens, Barrons and Edmondsons were the early settlers in Pendleton District, SC.

The sons of Richard’s father (Thomas) were:
1.) James Edmondson
2.) John Edmondson
3.) Thomas Edmondson
4.) George Edmondson.

Lee & Lois,

My research has slowed down, too.  Age & crabbiness probably taking a toll here, too.  I'm trying to bring my Edmondson research to a conclusion and help a cousin do an Edmondson/Smith book on my grandfather's line.  An uncle took a dna test & we are a 35/37 marker match to one of the descendents of Ths., who died in 1715 Essex Co., VA.  Using proximity etc., we think our line from went from Richard b. 1805 in SC, to Geo. W. of Pend. Dist. & his father, Ths., III (m. a Mary) of Winchester, VA & Pend. Dist.  Ths./Essex's son, Ths. II & Constance Parr are the link back to Ths./Essex. One link to the Watkins is through Richard's presumed brother, Geo. W., II, who married Alcey Watkins.  On the other hand, there is a possibility that a Mary Edmondson, who signed an early 1800's Pend. Dist. deed with Geo. W., I & his brothers, disposing of some of their father's (Ths. III) land, could be an unknown first wife of Geo. W. I.  Geo. W. I m. a widow, Letitia Wallace by 1805.  He had 4 sons & a daughter (plus Letitia's 2 girls) in the 1810 census.  Do you have a missing Mary Watkins old enough to marry @1800?  Just a slim possibility...

Richard's wife, Margaret b. @1805 NC/SC could also be a Wakins, but I'm more inclined to think she was a Barron.  Anyhow, here's the real reason that I'm writing.  A fellow researcher sent this deed that he found in Pickens, SC:  Thanks for the Watkins links; they were helpful.

DBk E-1:336, 21 Oct. 1840, Geo. W. (II) & Mahala Edmondson of Pickens Dist., SC sold for $65, 100 acres being the same conveyed to the said Mehala Edmondson by her father Joshua Watkins by his last will, to Geo. Seagler.  Land is that plantation where Geo. Seagler now lives on a fork of Cane Crk. adj. land belonging to Joshua Denny, Ths. Richard & Jesse Hunnicutt.  Signed by both Geo. & Mahala with marks.  Witnesses:  Stephen Powell, Wm. Grisham.  Mahala renounced dower to Jos. Grisholm, Notary Public. (Is this merely a mistake on part of the recorder?)  Another deed makes it seem that it is an error.  A deed of Jos. Grisham of west Union, SC mentioned that it's location on fork of Cane Creek of Keowee River was the same that he bought from G.W. Edmondson, which was a part of the land Jos. Watkins gave to his 2 daughters.  How do you interpret this?  Nancy
