Benevolence Yokohama Bay, Japan. To: Mother Ruby Edney [Dukes] and Father Hugh Grimes Dear Mom: Well here I am, still feeling a little woozy, but otherwise okay. I guess you know I've been hurt pretty bad, but it's really nothing to worry about. I'm well now, or almost anyway and still thinking about home more than ever. I suppose you got the telegram they sent when it first happened at eninetoh. I was transferred from the New Kent to the Benevolence right away and am still on her and will be for a while longer as far as I know now. How is everybody at home? How's the mill running these days? I still remember how I used to slave for old man Spencer and wish I still was Ha! It seems like a long time ago that I was listening to the Grand Old Opera with dad on Sat. night and enjoying myself a lot more than I will for a long time or so it seems anyway. Maybe it wont be long till I'll get a leave and when I do I'm going to "grab" sis and come home like a streak of lightning. Ha! I mean it too even if it does sound funny. You'll have to pardon my handwriting because I had a head injury among other ones and I can hardly see to write. (My eyes are a little bloodshot yet ha!) The whole thing is quite a joke sort of on me anyhow, I shouldn't have made the mistake of turning loose when I did ha! Well you tell Dad I said he'd better play it smart and grab a little property while the grabbins good. The wars almost over now and it'll soon go up like the Dickens. Sorry I cant help much because my pays been fouled up because of the accident. Well Bye. Take good care of yourself and write me lots. I haven't much to do now you know. Charles H.
