Grimes Heraldry

I have most recently aquired a copy of Burke's General Armory and have begun attempting to reconstruct the arms from the descriptions given of the arms registered to persons with the Grimes surname . There are five listed but one repeated.

Since only the descriptions are listed, they tend to be subject to interpretation and thus variances on design may be observed depeneding on the artist's reading of the description. For this reason, I am presenting both my rendition of the arms based on my interpretation of the description listed as well as the original (and translated) description from Burkes General Armory.

NOTE: The legitimacy of Burkes as a source of genealogical information seems to be in some question. We use their descriptions here because at this time they are the earliest (1847) descriptions available to us. Please see Errors to Beware in the Burke's Peerage as well as Buthlaw's Armorial
