The Hynes Family
My Hynes ancestry is located in Fortune Bay area of Newfoundland, namely the communities of English Harbour East, St. Bernard's, Terrenceville, Bay L'Argent, and Langue de Cerf with scattered descendants all over the world.
Thomas Hynes and Elizabeth Saunders were both born about the year 1811. Because of a lack of surviving parish records most of her family records have been lost. From a recently discovered marriage record of her brother George Saunders and Ann Baker in 1871, her parents were John and Elizabeth Saunders. Thomas and Elizabeth's confirmed children include: Joseph Hynes, Thomas Hynes, Michael Hynes, Patrick Hynes, Mary Hynes, Ellen Hynes, Elizabeth Hynes, John Hynes and Hannah Hynes.
1)Thomas Hynes (Born 1830, English Harbour East, Died Dec 22 1908 of Heart Failure on the S.S. Virginia Lake, Buried: St. Bernard's) married Rebecca Pittman (Born 1837, Oderin, Placentia Bay, Died Feb 3 1911 of Measles in Bay L'Argent, Buried: St. Bernard's) on Feb 2 1867 in Oderin, Placentia Bay. They had 8 children together. Thomas and Rebecca originally lived in English Harbour East then moved to Bay L'Argent.
2)Hannah Hynes (Born 1830, English Harbour East, Died Aug 9 1919 of Old Age in Grand La Pierre, Buried: Terrenceville) married Henry 'Harry' James Labour (Born 1837, English Harbour East, Died Dec 2 1909 of Pneumonia in English Harbour East) on Sept 16 1867. They had 3 children together. They lived in English Harbour East.
3)Michael Hynes (Born 1831, English Harbour East, Died May 1 1900 of Spinal Disease in Langue de Cerf, Buried: St. Bernard's) married Ann Whittle (Born 1838, Flat Islands, Placentia Bay, Died May 17 1898 of Heart Failure in Langue de Cerf. (Died on her way to her potato garden according to family history) Buried: St. Bernard's) on Oct 18 1866. They had 7 children together. They originally lived in English Harbour East, but moved to Langue de Cerf where many of her family, the Whittle's, moved to after leaving the Flat Islands.
4)Ellen Hynes (Born 1837, English Harbour East, Died Dec 23 1892 of a chill in English Harbour East, Buried: St. Bernard's) married John Vaters (No Known Information) on Oct 2 1872. They had at least 2 children together. They lived in English Harbour East. When he died, Ellen remarried to a William Archibald (No Known Information) on Oct 7 1881. They did not have any children.
5)Elizabeth Hynes (No Known information) married Abraham Lang (Born 1841, Unknown, Died Sept 4 1911 of Senile Debility) on April 1 1871. They had an unknown amount of children together, and it is unknown where they lived. After Elizabeth died, Abraham remarried to a Margaret Murphy of Placentia Bay.
6)Mary Hynes (Born 1841, English Harbour East, Died Aug 19 1919 of Old Age in Terrenceville, Buried: Terrenceville) married John McCarthy (Born 1836, Terrenceville, Died August 18 1910 of Old Age in Terrenceville, Buried: Terrenceville) on Oct 10 1874. They had 7 children together. They lived in Terrenceville.
7)Joseph Hynes (Born 1842, English Harbour East, Died Oct 7 1929 of Asthma on Woods Island, Buried: Woods Island) married Martha Murphy (Born Unknown, Oderin, Placentia Bay, Died Feb 28 1884 of an unknown cause in English Harbour East, Buried: St. Bernard's) on Nov 8 1872. They had 8 children together. They lived in English Harbour East, then moved to the Island community of Woods Island, Bay of Islands in 1898.

They lived in English Harbour East.
