Gersende was the widow of Theobald of Blois. She had a son by Adalbert AzzoII (d.1097), Hugh V count of Maine 1070/92. Hugh V married aGersendemistress of Geoffrey de Mayenne. In 1093 Hugh sold the county to Helias del a Fleche (ES III(4):692). Michel Bur *La formation du comte de Champagne v.950 - v.1150* (Nancy, 1977) discusses Gersende de Maine but offers no further genealogical information than that just given. Volker Reinhardt *Diegrossen Familien Italiens* (Stuttgart, 1992) p.244 merely distinguishes his descendants by Cunigunde situated in Germany and his Italian descendants by(?) situated in the region of Padua and Ferrara. VR does not mention the marriage with Gersende, but some of his accounts of the familie she covers can be a bit thin at the early end.DATE 13 MAR 1999
