William G. Cooke

When May and I were east in 1920, we went to from Oneonta to New York August 12, and a day or two later, called on Uncle Erastus' son, Willis, at his law office and he took us to Faunce's Tavern for lunch. Faunce's Tavern is where Washington took leave of his officers after the Revolution. It is run in memory of this meeting. It is wrong to call it a hotel or anything but a tavern. The man who took our hats wore Continental livery. The lunch was not enough to hurt anyone but it cost him about $7 for the three of us - lobster, hard rolls and coffee.
I told him about the pictures as your mother asked me to. I could see that he was afraid that they would not have much value as art so I am very glad they have gone where they will be appreciated. I went across under the East River to call on a sister of Willie's, who had some kind of position in an orphan asylum, and had a good visit with her. I do not remember her name. Her hair was gray. She said it had been red and that she had taught art in St. Louis. She said while Uncle Erastus was alive they had a big house and it was full of servants but when he died everything stopped. Willie Cook said no man of our Cook family had lived to be 70. He was 68 and hoped he would break the record. I have never learned whether he did or not. Elisha died January 28, 1920. He would have been 79 the next March. I did not explain this to Willie, as it would have left him without much to live for by destroying his main ambition. His younger brother, Charles, died in Kansas City the same day Elisha died. When we were there, Willie's son Howard Holden Cook was to be married in a few days to a teacher in Boulder, Colorado. (Howard Holden Cook was born August 11, 1890, and was married on August 31, 1920 to Florence Helen Kluss. He was an osteopathic physician.) His mother had already gone and Willie was getting his work in shape to leave. One of my neighbors had moved to Boulder. I wrote to him and he sent me the paper with the account of the wedding. This said they would take an automobile trip through New England and then settle at Dover, New Jersey, where he would be an osteopath. This was 21 years ago so he may not be there now. (William G. Cook also had a daughter, Katharine F. who was born May 19, 1884, and in 1909 was married Charles R. Perry.) (The sister in Brooklyn was Helen. She was born in 1862.)
In 1873, when Willie was 21, he spent most of the summer at our house with his sister May, 15, who was threatened with consumption. He was do green about country life that he furnished some rich entertainment for all. One morning Willie and Daphnea started on a trip, I think to Cyrus Hunt's and they had a horse and buggy that belonged to Daphnea's grandfather Andrews. As he was trying to get under way, Uncle Holden called after them and told them when they got to West Oneonta, ư mile, they had better put the horse in the livery barn and walk back and stay the first night.

Hello,

I'm new to the list, but have searched the list archives and did not find info on the ancestors I am researching.

I would like to see if anyone has info on the Cyrus Daniel GREEN that married Huldah WARNER please. I do not have birth dates, but Huldah's father fought in Rev. War and died in NH.

I believe I have located this Cyrus D. and Huldah living in Lawrence Co., OH by 1820, along with an Elisha B. Green (also fought in Rev. War, I do not know relation to Cyrus).

In 1824 Lawrence Co., OH court docs, Huldah Greene is administering Cyrus D. Greene's estate. I have just sent for these records.

I have a Cyrus D. Green that was born in 1812 in VT (according to census reports) that married Sarah C. PORTER in 1834 in Athens Co., OH. Their oldest son was Cyrus D. Green, born 1838 in Ohio, who married Sarah E.
BELL.

I am trying to connect my Cyrus D. Greene (b. 1812) to the Cyrus D. Greene and wife Huldah of early Lawrence Co., OH. Any leads or direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Teddy in CA

Frank A. Green

Hi, I do believe I have found at least one of those 'probable' children of Alanson Green and Eliza Ayer. My mother, Charlotte L. Green Brandt is the daughter of Frank A. Green and the granddaughter of Oscar Green who was the son of Alanson and Eliza Green. I was born in Flint, Michigan in 1938 but unfortunately my grandfather, Frank A. Green, died the year before, 1937. Because of so many moves and damaged trunks in flooded basements, my sister and I have lost many of the records and pictures that could prove a lot of this. But, we are starting to work on it. What we were told is that Oscar was one of seven (7) children born in New York. Oscar's birth date being June 20, 1844 in Amhurst, Erie County, N.Y.. I believe he walked with his brother 'Fred' to Michigan and ended up in Goodrich or Goodrichville. I have been trying to put to gether the "7" children of Alanson and Eliza Green. Hopefully this will complete my search of a direct line back to the 1700's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Deborah (Debbie) Rusch
Occpation: Foot patrolman and sheriff

Dear Mr. Green, I am such a novice at this and have not hit the state, county, or city records yet. But maybe I can help you and you can help me. I should add that after many moves over the years and flooded basements and trunks, I lost many records. I am the granddaughter of Frank A. Green from Genesee county Michigan. I have been told that his father was Oscar Green and his grandfather was Alanson Green, with grandmother Eliza Ayer. Now, I believe that Oscar is one of those 'sons' born in New York and walked to Michigan. Also, I was told that there was also a brother 'Fred" who walked with him. I would like Oscar L. etc. to be added on to Alanson's childrens list, assuming this is true. Are you interested in completing this branch and/or do you have any other names, dates of Oscars sib.s and information? I should add that my mother was Charlotte L. Green, daughter of Frank A. and Anna Wainwright Green. Thankyou. Debbie Rusch
