To be an orphan by death or desertion was a hard life. Some had good guardians and some had bad.
But they must have felt grand when at 21 years of age He received his horse, saddle, bridle, a suit of store bought clothes and one hand made. . .and She received a bed, clothes and furniture.
Orphans played a great part in this Society, gave their lives at Appomattox and Shiloh along with the rest...made inventions, built roads, tunnels, farmed, mined and raised cattle--wasn't it good to be free?
