In Reply to: Camp Douglas (Where and Lookup) by Martin Graves; of 32549;

Confederate prisoners of war at Camp Douglas, c. 1864. During the Civil War,
Camp Douglas, originally constructed at Thirty-first Street and Cottage Grove
Avenue as a Union Army training post, served as a Confederate prisoner-of-war
camp. Between 1862 and 1865, the camp housed about twenty-six thousand
prisoners in temporary, wooden barracks. As a result of harsh conditions, some
four thousand men died at the camp; they were buried in unmarked paupers'
graves in Chicago's City Cemetery, located at the southeast corner of what is
now Lincoln Park. In 1867, the remains were reburied at Oak Woods Cemetery,
about five miles south of the camp.

Subject: Greetings back
'As for Benjamin B. Graves, I went to the University of Virgnia and looked up his
muster rolls and found out that he was captured at Gettysburg and could'nt find
anything else about him. I figure he was taken to Elmyra prison and probably
died there since that was more of a concentration camp than a p.o.w camp. I
also went to the Fredricksburg battle-field and looked on the burial roll and his
name wasn't there. If you find anything more concrete, let me know.'
Your Cousin, Mike Graves

"Cynthia Sellers is the daughter of Joseph B. Sellers, Sr. and his wife Lillie Sutton. ...My notes indicate that Joseph was deceased by 1850 .... The information I have on Cynthia Sellers came from a family Bible. The information was shared with me about 10 years ago by a gentleman who has since passed away. I'll see if I can get in touch with a family member and obtain a copy of the page from the Bible. I just copied the names and dated at the time and didn't have my scanner with me. "

"Cynthia Sellers is one of those people we have not been able to figure out parentage. However, I figure she is from the Matthew Sellers family. Matthew also lived on Thompson Creek near the area where out more widely known Hardy Sellers lived. Matthew left no will or any other records, but we belive that McCarroll Sellers who moved from Thompson Creek to current day Jefferson area is from this family as well as David Crokett Sellers whose son Levander Jackson Sellers moved near the current day Patrick area from Anson County, NC. Wish I could have been more of a help here, but have not run across anything definitive. "
