ZINCK-LINGLE TRIAL

Information from:
C. J. Egetter

The story of Emma Zinck and the Lingle brothers, and their role in the sensational murder trial in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the late 1870s. It was a sordid tale of public drunkenness and carousing that led to the stabbing death of John Sheehy at Swinney Park during a 4th of July festival. One of the key witnesses at the trial was one Emma Zinck, wife of Phillip Zinck (who was not involved in the murder or trial). There were other characters in the unfolding drama ... three Lingle brothers … one of whom was drowned under suspicious circumstances. (C. J. Egetter]

Emma shows up in the Fort Wayne 1880 U.S. Federal Census, living in the OVERLY household, including Rose Overly, one of the principals in the trial … who in fact at one point was accused of committing the murder, and subsequently causing the death of Anthony Lingle who supposedly witnessed her crime.
