EDITH IOLA6 SHIELDS was the fourth child of Caleb5 (Patrick4, Isaac M.3, Patrick2, Daniel1) Shields and Hannah E. Myers. She was born 11 September 1896 probably in Darke County, Ohio. She married 25 August 1914 probably in Darke County, Ohio to Charles I. Patterson. Edith died 23 September 1976. Charles was born 21 Apr 1892 and died 21 Aug 1981. To this couple was born an only son, Richard I.7 Patterson in 1918.

This couple moved into the Caleb Shields home and cared for the blind Caleb until his death. They then inherited the homestead and farm. Edith and Charles are buried at Abbottsville Cemetery in Darke County, Ohio.
