The Middlesex County-Somerset County, New Jersey county lines moved back and forth several times in those early years. Raritan Landing is found recorded as being in Somerset County and Middlesex County. Today it is in Middlesex County. Raritan Landing was so important in those early years, as it was the furthest port up the Raritan River that ocean going vessels could navigate. See: A Note about Places
