List of the Virginia Parishes 1607-1785, which served as local units of government and religious and community organizations. In colonial Virginia, parishes and their boundaries were established (and altered) by acts of the General Assembly.

"After 16 January 1786 the General Assembly passed Thomas Jefferson's Bill for Establishing Religious Freedom, and while parishes continued to exist, those were no longer units of state government.

The county is listed first, followed by the parish(es) that at one time or another were considered as in whole or in part within the boundaries of that county."
