BIOGRAPHY
Written by Martha Jane Bowers Creager

K. Guy Creager graduated from West Alexandria High School in the class of 1914. He graduated from Heidelberg College at Tiffin, Ohio in 1918, majoring in biological sciences. He wanted to go to Kirksville, Missouri to take up osteopathy as he’d also majored in physical education. However, he joined the army in 1918 and was stationed in Little Silver, New Jersey. He received his discharge in 1920.

He married Ruth Neota Crosser on August 26, 1921 and they went to Huntington, Virginia where he taught physical education. Then they moved to Bluffton, Ohio in 1922 and taught there when Dick was born. A teaching contract disagreement prompted him to quit there, and they moved to Columbus, Ohio where he took up barbering. (Barbering was his way of financing his college year sat Heidelberg.) Divorce followed, and he went to Versailles, Ohio where he went back into teaching.

In later years he was Manager of Employment Office in Troy, Miami County, Ohio and Sidney, Shelby County, Ohio. He then worked for the War Manpower Commission out of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. He was transferred to Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana in that capacity. His job ended there at the end of the Second World War, whereup he returned to Piqua, Miami County, Ohio. He sold Banker’s Life Insurance for a time, and then went into business as a manager for Seal-Tite Storm Windows in Piqua.

During all this time, he was a good Democrat and worked at it many ways. Through 1979, he still worked at the polls. His many letters-to-the-editor in local papers, Dayton papers, and Columbus papers stirred up political issues for both parties. He was well-known around six immediate counties for presenting his view on issues of that time.

He had a “great mind,” wit and humor that no one else could match. His wisdom and knowledge was never shown at their greatest potential.
