CREAGER DAR MEMBERSHIP

by
Irene (Creager) Lawson
(The Creager History, 1985: Preface, p. ii.)

"As of October 10, 1984, after offering proof of my lineage from Adam Creager, our Revolutionary ancestor, I have been accepted into the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Any Creager "daughter" in this book would have no problem being accepted into DAR using only the short form. They need only to have the DAR refer to my records in their files and would only need to prove their immediate family lineage. My records are listed as follows:

Irene Creager Lawson, Registration No. 685566, Commodore Preble 4-023-OH.

Kimberly Ann Creager Pankey, DAR National Number # 854279, National Ford Chapter, SC.

Further information can be obtained from: Office of the Registar General, Administration Building 1776 D Street N.W., Washington, D. C. 20006-5392."

MEMBERSHIP in the DAR?

Membership in DAR is open to women who are eighteen years of age or older. They must prove lineal bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving United States independence. This would be based upon acceptable ancestors who were signers of the United States Declaration of Independence; American Revolutionary War veterans of local and state navies and militias, privateers, and French and Spanish soldiers and sailors who fought in achieving independence for the United States. Also, included in the group were those who served as civil servants of provisional or state governments; and certainly members of the Continental Congress and State conventions and assemblies that led to independence. Among those also were the signers of Oaths of Allegiance or Oaths of Fidelity and Support. There were those ancestors who were participants in the Boston Tea Party and those prisoners of war, refugees, and defenders of forts and frontiers. There were ancestors who were doctors and nurses who served in helping the Revolutionary War casualties. Membership includes ministers, petitioners, and ancestors who gave material or patriotic support to the Revolutionary cause. The National Society of DAR makes the final decision as to the acceptability of all applications for membership.
