Kit and Anthony learned to knit stockings which they sold in the village.
He started work pushing empty trucks from the mill up to the workings at the
age of 6.He served his apprenticeship with Joseph Nutter,a prosperous Bradford
cabinet maker.In 1845 he went self employed in Brummitt's Yard in Darley St.
Nutter retired in 1850 so he brought his stock.

Jane was a saleswomen for a year or so in a china shop in Bond St,London
returning to Bradford about 1840. She was a clever girl and known to have
money in the bank 40. An energetic and capable wife she was ready to turn
her hand to any job that would help her husband build up his bussiness. Jane
and Kit were true team mates who with limitless devotion and hard work made
good. Jane being a homely person hated the public functions and dinners
connected with Kits social activities,but she loyally accompanied him wherever
