Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5), son of Jesse Whitmire (W6/1.3) and Nancy Durden Whitmire (D6/3.4), was born in St. Tammany Parish January 16, 1817, according to his tombstone.  He was married October 11, 1837 to Letitia "Lettie" Crockett (C5/1.2) by Justice of the Peace S. Miles, according to Rankin County, Mississippi Marriage Book 1, page 47.  Stephen Whitmire (W5/3.3), his brother, was his bondsman.  She was born in Rankin County May 6, 1822 to Elijah Crockett (C6/1.1) and Martha Durden Crockett (D6/1.2), believed to be a sister to Nancy Durden Whitmire (D6/1.1).  If so, Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) married his first cousin.  Elijah Crockett (C6/1.1) had settled in Washington Parish, Louisiana in 1810, according to "Claims West of Pearl River."

 

According to Raymond Elton Bailey (B1/1.2), a descendant, she was a first cousin once-removed to Davey Crockett (C6/1.1), immortalized at the Alamo.  He was born August 17, 1786 in Greene County, Tennessee to John Crockett (C7/1.1) and Rebecca Hawkins Crock­ett (H7/1.1).  He died in San Antonio March 6, 1836 at the age of 49. His mother was a sister to Sarah Hawkins (H7/1.2) who was married to John Sevier (S7/1.1), hero of the Battle of King's Mountain who later became governor of Tennessee.

 

John Crockett (C7/1.1) was a son of David Crockett (C8/1.1) of Pennsylvania and North Carolina.  In 1771 he lived in Lincoln County, North Carolina.  David Crockett (C8/­1.1) was the son of William Crockett (C9/1.1) of New Rochelle, New York, according to "Davey Crockett and the Crockett Family" by Janie Preston Collup French and Zella Arm­strong.

 

William Crockett (C9/1.1) was born in New Rochelle August 10, 1709 to Joseph Louis Crockett (C10/1.1), an Irish emigrant who was born January 9, 1667.  Joseph Louis Crockett (C10/1.1) was the son of Antoine de Saussure Perronette de Crocketagne (C11/­1.1) who was born July 10, 1643 in Montauban, France.  He was second in command in King Louis' household guards in 1664 when he became a Huguenot.  In 1672 he fled from France to England and then to Ireland.  Antoine de Saussure Perronette de Crocke­tagne (C11/1.1) was a son of Gabriel Gustave de Crocketagne (C12/1.1) of Mountauban.

 

Raymond Elton Bailey (B1/1.1) related that when the railroad was being constructed into Buna two Mexican workman came to the home of Letitia "Lettie" Crockett Whitmire (C5/1.2) for drinking water.  She took down her shotgun and ordered them off her prop­erty, saying "You're part of the bunch that killed Davey."

 

Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) appeared as a resident of Rankin County August 24, 1838, according to Rankin County Deed Book D, page 248 which recorded the sale of a farm:

 

"State of Mississippi, Rankin County

 

This Indenture made and entered into this 24th day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight by and between Elias Whitmire of the one part and Freeman Lacy of the other part witnesseth that for and in consid­eration of the sum of three hundred dollars to him the said Elias Whitmire in hand paid the re­ceipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained sold and conveyed and by these presents do bargain sell and convey to the said Freeman Lacy a cer­tain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in Rankin County and State of Mississippi and known and designated as the South West Half of the North West Quarter of Section No. 29, Township No. 3, Range N3E containing 39 14/100 acres.  To have and to hold to the said Freeman Lacy his heirs Executors administrators or assigns forever all and singular the appurtenances belonging in any wise to the above described premises, and the said Elias Whitmire doth covenant with the said Freeman Lacy that he has full power to sell and convey the above described premises and he covenants to warrant and defend the ti­tle to said land from all persons claiming or to claim the same or any part in testi­mony whereof the said party of the first part hath herewith set his hand and affixed his seal this day and date above written.

He applied for a land grant in Texas in January 1839, and a conditional certificate was issued to him August 2, 1841.  He reappeared along with his father and three brothers in the 1840 tax list of Jasper County, Texas.  He received a land grant of 320 acres about this time in Liberty County which was relocated in Jasper County July 7, 1842.  In 1845 "Elias Whitmer" paid a polltax in Polk County, according to "Repub­lic of Texas Poll Lists for 1846" by Marion Day Mullins.   He appeared on the 1846 polltax list of McMullin County, Texas along with Elijah Whitmire and Stephen Whit­mire, unidentified.  In 1855 he received a grant of 320 acres "15 miles from Liv­ingston" in Polk County.

 

He was enumerated in the 1850 census of San Augustine County, Texas as the head of Household 207-207:

 

        "Whitmire, Elias        31, born in Louisiana, farmer

                   Lettie       28, born in Mississippi

                   Martha       10, born in Texas

                   Andrew J.     8, born in Texas

                   Marshall   3/12, born in Texas"

 

They reappeared in the 1860 census of Jasper County:

                   Letiticia    39, born in Louisiana

                   Andrew       18, born in Texas

Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) and Letitia "Lettie" Crockett Whitmire (C5/1.2) gave a deed to a two-acre strip, 100 feet wide across their property to Beaumont Lumber Company July 5, 1894, according to Jasper County Deed Book S, page 227.

 

Letitia "Lettie" Crockett Whitmire (C5/1.2) died September 3, 1896 and was buried in Antioch Cemetery in Jasper County.  Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) was enumerated in the 1900 census of Jasper County, Enumeration District 30, page 2, precinct 4 as "84, born in Louisiana in January 1816, living with son, William E. Dill."   He died July 1, 1900, according to his tombstone in Morse Cemetery, Buna.

Martha Ann Mahalia Whitmire (W4/5.1), daughter of Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) and Leti­tia "Lettie" Crockett Whitmire (C5/1.2), was born March 6, 1840 in Jasper County. She appeared as a 10-year-old in the 1850 census of her father's household.  She was mar­ried April 1, 1858 to Elly Richardson (R4/1.1), according to Jasper County Marriage Book A, page 104.  She was remarried January 14, 1866 to Eli M. Lowe (L4/1.1) who was born December 28, 1843 in Jefferson County, Texas to Daniel Lowe (L5/1.1) and Sallie Crockett Lowe (C5/1.1).  He died August 17, 1888 at Buna, and she died September 26, 1919.

Letty Richardson (R3/1.1), daughter of Elly Richardson (R4/1.1) and Martha Ann Mahalia Whitmire Richardson (W4/5.1), was born in 1858.  She was enumerated in the 1870 census living in the household of her maternal grandparents.

 

Winnie Lowe (L3/1.1), daughter of Eli M. Lowe (L4/1.1) and Martha Ann Mahalia Whitmire Richardson Lowe (W4/5.1), was born in November 1866 at Buna.

 

Elias Lowe (L3/1.2), son of Eli M. Lowe (L4/1.1) and Martha Ann Mahalia Whitmire Rich­ardson Lowe (W4/5.1), was born June 14, 1868 at Buna.  He was married September 22, 1899 at Buna to his first cousin, Clarissa Whitmire (W3/8.2), daughter of William Hen­ry Whitmire (W4/5.8) and Rebecca Irene Crawford Whitmire (C3/1.1).  Clarissa Whit­mire (W3/1.1) was born at Buna October 14, 1879.  He died April 11, 1957 at Buna, and she died there March 26, 1961.  He had a "photographic memory," according to Larry Vernon Franklin (F1/1.1), and provided much historical data on the Whitmire, Crockett and Durden families with his extraordinary mental recall.

Martha Crockett Lowe (L3/1.3), daughter of Eli M. Lowe (L4/1.1) and Martha Ann Mahalia Whitmire Richardson Lowe (W4/5.1), was born July 6, 1870 at Buna.  She was married April 10, 1887 to Edmond Murphy Crawford (C3/1.1).  She was remarried to Ralph Morris Franklin (F3/1.1).  She died December 4, 1947.

 

Children born to Ralph Morris Franklin (F3/1.1) and Martha Crockett Lowe Crawford Franklin (L3/1.3) include:

Vernon Franklin (F2/1.1), son of Ralph Morris Franklin (F3/1.1) and Martha Crockett Lowe Crawford Franklin (L3/1.3), was born March 12, 1912 at Buna.  .  He was married June 30, 1932 at Lake Charles, Louisiana to Millie Lorena Williamson (W2/1.1) who was born December 31, 1906 at Fields, Louisiana.  He died at Silsbee, Texas October 2, 1984.

        Larry Vernon Franklin   (F1/1.1)        born January 18, 1944

 

Larry Vernon Franklin (F1/1.1), son of Vernon Franklin (F2/1.1) and Millie Lorena Wil­liamson Franklin (S2/1.1), was born January 18, 1944.  He was married November 10, 1966 to Carolyn Ann Stanley (S1/1.1).  In 1969 he was employed as an officer with the sheriff's department of Orange County, Texas and remained in that capacity in 1985. He has done extensive research on the Whitmire, Crockett and Durden families, having been influenced to genealogy by his parents.  They and their nine children resided in Vi­dor, Texas in May 1985.

 

Sallie Lowe (L3/1.4), daughter of Eli M. Lowe (L4/1.1) and Martha Ann Mahalia Whitmire Richardson Lowe (W4/5.1), was born May 4, 1872 at Buna.  She was married March 10, 1889 to John Henry Bean (B3/1.1).

 

Mandy Lowe (L3/1.5), daughter of Eli M. Lowe (L4/1.1) and Martha Ann Mahalia Whitmire Richardson Lowe (W4/5.1), was born in April 1874.  She died October 3, 1877.

 

Manervia Lowe (L3/1.6), daughter of Eli M. Lowe (L4/1.1) and Martha Ann Mahalia Whit­mire Richardson Lowe (W4/5.1), was born October 14, 1876.  She was married about 1894 to Ernest Pool (P3/1.1).

 

Andrew Jackson Whitmire (W4/5.2), son of Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) and Letitia "Let­tie" Crockett Whitmire (C5/1.2), was born in 1842.  He appeared as an eight-year-old in the 1850 census of his father's household.  According to Jasper County Marriage Book A, page 205 he was married July 19, 1866 to Angelina Moray Morse (M4/1.1) who was born February 23, 1849.  She was the daughter of John Morse (M5/1.1) who was born in South Carolina in 1817 and Lucy Morse who was born in Georgia in 1823.

 

On August 6, 1866 Andrew Jackson Whitmire (W4/5.2) received a deed to 160 acres of land from the heirs of Benjamin Richardson for $40, according to Jasper County Deed Book F, page 620.  The land was described as being "32 miles south of Jasper and 6 miles east of the Neches River."  Guardians for the minor heirs of Benjamin Richardson were listed as "Elias Whitmire, Jacob Mason and L. A. Richardson."  The deed was not recorded until September 2, 1889.

 

On September 9, 1872 Andrew Jackson Whitmire (W4/5.2) received a deed to 160 acres in Richardson Survey from Robert Alexander Thompson, Letty Thompson and Clarissa Taylor for $80, according to Jasper County Deed Book J, page 136.  This land was also de­scribed as being "32 miles south of Jasper and 6 miles east of the Neches River." 

                    

In the fall of 1872 Andrew Jackson Whitmire (W4/5.2) was accidentally shot and killed while on a bear hunt with his brother-in-law Henry Mason (M4/1.1) and a friend, ac­cording to Raymond Elton Bailey (B1/1.2), a great-grandson:

 

"While out on this hunting trip they shot a bear.  The bear ran into some heavy brush.  Henry Mason was holding back some limbs so Andrew could crawl into the brush and scare the bear out.  The limb slipped from Mason's grip and hit the trigger of his gun.  It went off, and the bullet struck Andrew.  He died before they could get him to the house.  It is reported that the Whitmire family ran Ma­son off and told him if he ever returned they would kill him.  I think that they thought he killed Andrew on purpose."

 

Angelina Moray Morse Whitmire (M4/1.1) was remarried October 7, 1874 to Wylie Curry who was born November 6, 1848 in Texas, according to McGinty research.  They appeared in the 1880 census of Houston County, Enumeration District 26, page 8.  She died in Buna April 28, 1904, and Wylie Curry died December 30, 1918.  Seven children were born to them.  They were buried in Antioch Cemetery.

John W. Whitmire (W3/2.1), son of Andrew Jackson Whitmire (W4/5.2) and Angelina Moray Morse Whitmire (M4/1.1), was born May 6, 1867 at Buna.  He was married March 3, 1893 to Alice Paige (P3/1.1) who was born January 24, 1877 in Florida.  He farmed in Jasper County.

 

He appeared as the head of a household in the 1900 census of Madison County, Enumera­tion District 32, page 2:

 

        "Whitmire, John         34, born in May 1866 in Texas

                   Alice        24, born in March 1876 in Texas, wife

                   Della         5, born in September 1894 in Texas, daughter

                   Gardy         3, born in July 1896 in Texas, daughter

                   Elias         1, born in September 1898 in Texas, son"

 

The household reappeared in the 1910 census of Madison County, Enumeration District 136, page 7:

She died April 11, 1950, and he died February 6, 1954.  They were buried in Madison County, Texas.

Whitmire (W3/1.1) and Alice Paige Whit­mire (P3/1.1), was born at Buna October 31, 1894.  She appeared in the 1900 and 1910 enumerations of her father's household in Madison County.  She was married October 11, 1912 at Madisonville, Texas to Frank Kent Page (P2/1.1).  They were divorced about 1920, and she was remarried to Welder McKay (M2/1.1) in 1922. Following a second di­vorce she was remarried to Joe Garcell (G2/1.1) September 28, 1931 in Lafayette, Lou­isiana.  She died September 28, 1966 and was buried in South Park Cemetery, Houston, and he died November 17, 1967

 

Children born to Frank Kent Page (P2/1.1) and Della Whitmire Page (W2/1.1) include:

After her divorce from Frank Kent Page (P2/1.1) she had her sons' names legally changed to Paige in honor of her mother.

 

Forest Vernon Paige (P1/1.1), son of Frank Kent Page (P2/1.1) and Della Whitmire Page (W2/1.1), was born July 16, 1913.  He was married in 1939 to Vera Hollister (H1/1.1).

He became a farmer and drove a schoolbus for 21 years.  They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1972.

Burtis Mack Whitmire (W2/1.5), son of John W. Whitmire (W3/1.1) and Alice Paige Whit­mire (P3/1.1), was born March 29, 1904 in Madison County.  He was married about 1925 to Carma Ellen McFarland (M2/1.1), daughter of Henry McFarland (M3/1.1) and Rodie Mc­Farland.  Burtis Mack Whitmire (W2/1.5) died in 1929.

Follow­ing a divorce she was remarried September 3, 1937 to Walter Duncan Scherer (S2/1.1) who was born October 22, 1902.

Ruby Whitmire (W2/1.8), daughter of John W. Whitmire (W3/1.1) and Alice Paige Whitmire (P3/1.1), was born December 2, 1915 in Madison County.  Unmarried, she was a resident of Abilene State School, Abilene, Texas in 1985.

 

Ira Mae Whitmire (W2/1.9), daughter of John W. Whitmire (W3/1.1) and Alice Paige Whit­mire (P3/1.1), was born about 1917 and died young, according to Kendrick research.

                   

Harvey Whitmire (W2/1.10), son of John W. Whitmire (W3/1.1) and Alice Paige Whitmire (P3/1.1), was born about 1919.  He died young, according to Kendrick research.

 

Irvy Whitmire (W2/1.11), son of John W. Whitmire (W3/1.1) and Alice Paige Whitmire (P3/1.1), was born about 1921.  He died young, according to Kendrick research.

 

Elias Whitmire II (W3/2.2), son of Andrew Jackson Whitmire (W4/5.2) and Angelina Moray Morse Whitmire (M4/1.1), was born February 4, 1869 in Jasper County.  He appeared as a 10-year-old in the 1880 census of his step-father's household in the 1880 census of Houston County, Enumeration District 26, page 8.  He was married June 26, 1894 to Lourissa Ann Strawther (S3/1.1) who was born November 23, 1878.  He became a farmer in Madison County.  He was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1900 census of Madison County, Enumeration District 32, page 2, precinct 4:

White (W2/1.1) who was born October 24, 1899.  He became a postal carrier and died at Madisonville December 10, 1932, according to Texas BVS File 53755.  She died February 4, 1939.

Freeda Coiece Whitmire (W1/3.3), daughter of Ephriam Loyd Whitmire (W2/2.3) and Bessie Jane Winters Whitmire (W2/1.1), was born January 1, 1926 in Madison County. She was married about 1944 to Harold Murray (M1/1.1).

Raymond Elton Bailey (B1/1.2), son of John Milton Bailey II (B2/1.1) and Rachel An­gelina Coleman Bailey (C2/1.1), was born January 25, 1909 in Madisonville.  He was married there June 11, 1932 to James Wilma Rappe (R1/1.1) who was born January 28, 1912.  In 1984 he a retired engineer lived at Texas City, Texas.  He has made a de­tailed study of the Whitmire family history and supplied the data for this section of the Whitmire manuscript.

Richard Dwayne Charping (C-2/1.4), son of James Frederick Charping (C-1/1.1) and Jim­mie Jo Bailey Charping (B-1/2.1), was born September 12, 1962 at Galveston.  He was married July 15, 1983 in Houston to Darlene Waller (W-2/1.1).

Karen Rae Bailey (B-1/2.2), daughter of Raymond Elton Bailey (B1/1.2) and James Wilma Rappe Bailey (R1/1.1), was born June 11, 1939 in Madisonville.  In 1984 she remained unmarried and was employed as an executive secretary in Galveston.

 

Avis Winona Bailey (B1/1.3), daughter of John Milton Bailey II (B2/1.1) and Rachel An­geline Coleman Bailey (C2/1.1), was born July 27, 1913 in Madisonville.  She was mar­ried January 16, 1936 in Houston to George Gibson (G1/1.1).  They were divorced in 1943 without children.  She was remarried February 12, 1944 to Allen Reagon Ott (O2/­1.6) who was born April 19, 1912.  No children were born to them, but they adopted twin sons both of whom died in 1970.

 

Dora Mavis Bailey (B1/1.4), daughter of John Milton Bailey II (B2/1.1) and Rachel An­geline Coleman Bailey (C2/1.1), was born February 26, 1918 in Madisonville.  She was married there December 11, 1937 to Raleigh Timothy Burr (B1/1.1) who was born January 3, 1914.

Berdie M. Coleman (C2/1.5), daughter of Rainy C. Coleman (C3/1.1) and Dora Whitmire Coleman (W3/2.4), was born November 15, 1898 in Madison County.  She was married there in 1914, husband's name Thedford.  While on their honeymoon at Galveston Thedford dis­appeared and was assumed drowned.  Returning to Madisonville she was remarried in 1915 to Henry Charles Johnson (J2/1.1).  Shortly after the marriage Thedford reappeared, and the second marriage was set aside.  Following a divorce from Thedford she was re­married to her second husband.  Later they were divorced, and she remarried Jack Shel­burne (S2/1.1).  After a third divorce she was married a fourth time, husband's name McCright.  When this marriage failed she was married September 3, 1936 in San Antonio to B. Franklin Whitmire (W4/5.4), son of Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) and Letitia "Lettie" Crockett C5/1.2), was born in 1846.  He died in 1850, according to the Mortality Cen­sus.

 

A son, (W4/5.5), was born to Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) and Letitia "Lettie" Crockett Whitmire (C5/1.2) in 1848.  He died the same year.

 

Marshall Whitmire (W4/5.6), son of Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) and Letitia "Lettie" Crockett Whitmire (C5/1.2), was born March 10, 1850 at Buna.  He appeared at the age of three months in the 1850 census.  He was married March 1, 1870 to Nancy Conley (C4/1.1), according to Orange County, Texas Marriage Book B.  "Martial Whitmire" was remarried November 11, 1874 to "Manirva Taylor," according to Jasper County Marriage Book B, page 230.  Her name was recorded as Minerva Catherine Squires (S4/1.1) by de­scendants who report that she was born June 25, 1857.

Whit­mire" was married June 14, 1924 to Violet Ellisor(n?) (E2/1.1), according to San Jac­into County Marriage Book E, page 418.  Children born to Alvin E. Whitmire (W2/2.2) and Violet Ellisor Whitmire (E2/1.1) are unknown.

 

Wiley Whitmire (W2/2.3), son of Andrew Jackson Whitmire (W3/6.2) and Hattie Elizabeth McWilliams Whitmire (M3/1.1), was born in 1901.  He appeared as a nine-year-old in the 1910 census of his parents' household.

 

Hugh Whitmire (W2/2.4), son of Andrew Jackson Whitmire (W3/6.2) and Hattie Elizabeth McWilliams Whitmire (M3/1.1), was born in 1904.  He appeared as a six-year-old in the 1910 census of Liberty County.

Charlie Whitmire (W2/2.6), son of Andrew Jackson Whitmire (W3/6.2) and Hattie Eliza­beth McWilliams Whitmire (M3/1.1), was born in 1909, probably in Liberty County.  He appeared there in the 1910 census.  He was married October 10, 1927 to Tennie Sanders (S2/1.1), according to San Jacinto County Marriage Book E, page 583.  Children born to Charlie Whitmire (W2/2.6) and Tennie Sanders Whitmire (S2/1.1) include an infant which died October 2, 1930 in Liberty County, according to Texas BVS File 49647.

 

Henry B. Whitmire (W3/6.3), son of Marshall Whitmire (W4/5.6) and Nancy Conley Whit­mire (C4/1.1), was born in March 1877 in Cleveland, Texas.  He appeared as a 23-year-old in his father's household in the 1900 census.  He was married June 28, 1900 to Betty Roark (R3/1.1), according to San Jacinto County Marriage Book C, page 225.  She was born in 1883.  She died in 1952 and was buried in City Cemetery, Cleveland.  He died in 1965 and was buried beside her.

Joe Edward Whitmire (W2/3.3), son of Henry B. Whitmire (W3/6.3) and Betty Roark Whit­mire (R3/1.1), was born in 1906.  He was married about 1926, wife's name Mavis. She was born in 1910.  He died in 1965.  Children born to Joe Edward Whitmire (W2/3.3) and Mavis Whitmire are unknown.

 

Sherill Whitmire (W2/3.4), son of Henry B. Whitmire (W3/6.3) and Betty Roark Whitmire (R3/1.1), was born February 18, 1909.  He died June 15, 1948.

 

Hazel May Whitmire (W2/3.5), daughter of Henry B. Whitmire (W3/6.3) and Betty Roark Whitmire (R3/1.1), was born about 1913.

 

Mahala Whitmire (W3/6.4), daughter of Marshall Whitmire (W4/5.6) and Minerva Catherine Squires Whitmire (S4/1.1), was born in February 1883.  She appeared as a 17-year-old in her father's household in the 1900 census of Liberty County.  She was married about 1902 to Joseph Emhofer (E3/1.1) who was born in 1879.  He died in 1970 and was buried in Squires Cemetery.  She continued to live in 1976.

 

George Wesley Whitmire (W3/6.5), son of Marshall Whitmire (W4/5.6) and Minerva Cather­ine Squires Whitmire (S4/1.1), was born May 16, 1885.  He was married about 1908, wife's name Margie Ann who was born October 27, 1887.  She died January 4, 1965, and he died September 28, 1966.  They were buried in Cleveland City Cemetery.

Ida Whitmire (W3/6.7), daughter of Marshall Whitmire (W4/5.6) and Minerva Catherine Squires Whitmire (S4/1.1), was born March 17, 1890.  She was married about 1910, hus­band's name West.  She died April 11, 1973.

 

Crockett Whitmire (W3/6.8), son of Marshall Whitmire (W4/5.6) and Minerva Catherine Squires Whitmire (S4/1.1), was born in October 1891.  He appeared as an eight-year-old in the 1900 census of his father's household.  He appeared in the 1910 census of Lib­erty County as an 18-year-old.

 

Delia Whitmire (W3/6.9), daughter of Marshall Whitmire (W4/5.6) and Minerva Catherine Squires Whitmire (S4/1.1), was born in June 1894.  She appeared as a six-year-old in the 1900 census of her father's household.  She reappeared in the 1910 census of Lib­erty County at age 16.  She was married about 1919, husband's name Hargett.

 

E. M. C. Whitmire (W3/6.10), son of Marshall Whitmire (W4/5.6) and Minerva Catherine Squires Whitmire (S4/1.1), was born in July 1897.  He was enumerated in 1900 as a two-year-old.  He reappeared as a 12-year-old in the 1910 census of Liberty County.

 

Stella Whitmire (W3/6.11), daughter of Marshall Whitmire (W4/5.6) and Minerva Cather­ine Squires Whitmire (S4/1.1), was born in April 1900.  She appeared at age one month in the 1900 census of her father's household.

 

William B. Whitmire (W3/6.12), son of Marshall Whitmire (W4/5.6) and Minerva Catherine Squires Whitmire (S4/1.1), was born about 1903.  He appeared as a seven-year-old in the 1910 census of Liberty County.

 

Crockett W. Whitmire (W4/5.7), son of Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) and Letitia "Lettie" Crockett Whitmire (C5/1.2), was born March 2, 1853 in Jasper County.  According to Jasper County Marriage Book B, page 125 he was married September 4, 1873 to Minervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford (C4/1.1) who was born October 17, 1854 in Alabama.  She was the daughter of Edmond M. Crawford (C5/1.1) and Frances C. Mobely Crawford (M5/1.1).

He died July 22, 1904 at Buna and was buried in Morse Cemetery, Jasper County. Min­ervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.1) lived with her daughter Christianna Whitmire Dunn (W3/7.2) until 1952.  Her picture with three younger generations ap­peared in a Port Arthur newspaper November 3, 1954 in honor of her 100th birthday.  She died November 3, 1955 at Port Arthur at the age of 101 leaving 97 descendants.  She was buried beside her husband.

Whitmire (W4/5.7) and Minervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.1), was born October 5, 1877 in Jasper County.  She appeared in the 1880 census as a four-year-old.  According to Jasper County Marriage Book E, page 226 she was married December 27, 1893 to William Isaac Dunn (D3/1.1) who was born November 16, 1867 in Jasper County to John Thomas Dunn (D4/1.1) and Martha Ann Morse Dunn (M4/1.1).  He died June 14, 1954.  She died July 24, 1962 at Buna.

Alma Frances Dunn (D2/1.2), daughter of William Isaac Dunn (D3/1.1) and Christianna Whitmire Dunn (W3/7.2), was born April 1, 1896.  She was married April 1, 1913 to Jesse T. Reeves (R2/1.1).

 

Lola Sadie Dunn (D2/1.3), daughter of William Isaac Dunn (D3/1.1) and Christianna Whitmire Dunn (W3/7.2), was born October 30, 1899 in Buna.  She was married January 6, 1927 to Floyd Langston Cryer (C2/1.1) who was born March 8, 1901 in Polk County. He died June 4, 1972 in Beaumont, Texas, and she died in Buna June 14, 1976.  Lola Sadie Dunn Cryer (D2/1.3) was active in researching the Whitmire family history. After her death her genealogical records were given to Mrs. Bonnie Quiden, Mapleton, Utah.

Margaret Dunn (D2/1.4), daughter of William Isaac Dunn (D3/1.1) and Christianna Whit­mire Dunn (W3/7.2), was born November 4, 1901.  She was married January 16, 1922 to George Lee Johnson (J2/1.1).

 

John Crockett Dunn (D2/1.5), son of William Isaac Dunn (D3/1.2) and Christianna Whit­mire Dunn (W3/7.2), was born October 4, 1907.  He was married November 4, 1926 to Mamie Weatherford (W2/1.1).

 

Sarah E. "Sally" Whitmire (W3/7.3), daughter of Crockett W. Whitmire (W4/5.7) and Min­ervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.1), was born January 18, 1879 at Buna.  She appeared as a one-year-old in the 1880 census of her father's household. She was married December 25, 1895 to Martin Smith (S3/1.1), according to Jasper County Mar­riage Book E, page 297.  She was divorced and was enumerated in her father's household in 1900 as "Sally Whitmire."  She was remarried to Henry Hobbs (H3/1.1).  She died Au­gust 8, 1915, according to her tombstone in Morse Cemetery.

 

Hilliard W. Whitmire (W3/7.4), son of Crockett W. Whitmire (W4/5.7) and Minervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.1), was born March 22, 1881 at Buna.  He ap­peared as a 19-year-old in the 1900 census of his father's household.  According to Jasper County Marriage Book G, page 306 he was married March 28, 1907 to Celia Richardson (R3/1.1), daughter of Franklin W. Richardson (R4/1.1).  They appeared in the 1910 census of Jasper County in the household of his father-in-law.  He died February 8, 1956, and she died in 1973.  Both were buried in Morse Cemetery in Jasper County.  Children born to Hilliard W. Whitmire (W3/7.4) and Celia Richardson Whitmire (R3/1.1) are unknown.

 

Edmond Whitmire (W3/7.5), son of Crockett W. Whitmire (W4/5.7) and Minervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.1), was born July 2, 1882.  "Edward Whitmire" ap­peared as a 17-year-old in the 1900 census of his father's household.  He was married June 9, 1907 to Jane Strawther (S3/1.1), according to Jasper County Marriage Book G, page 152.  Following a divorce he was remarried to May Carrington (C3/1.1). In 1954 they were living in Houston.  "Ed Whitmire" was born June 1, 1884 and died February 7, 1970, according to his tombstone in Morse Cemetery, Buna.  Children born to Edmond Whitmire (W3/7.5), Jane Strawther Whitmire (S3/1.1) and May Carrington Whitmire (C3/­1.1) are unknown.

 

Lettie Whitmire (W3/7.6), daughter of Crockett W. Whitmire (W4/5.7) and Minervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.1), was born September 24, 1884.  She ap­peared as a 14-year-old "born in September 1885" in the 1900 census of her father's household.  She was married December 16, 1905 to Dennard Kirkendall (K3/1.1).  In 1954 they lived at Hull, Texas.  She died June 7, 1958, according to Lola Sadie Dunn Cryer (D2/1.1).

 

Frances Whitmire (W3/7.7), daughter of Crockett W. Whitmire (W4/5.7) and Minervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.1), was born July 11, 1886.  She was shown as a 12-year-old, "born in July 1887," in her father's 1900 census enumeration.

 

According to Jasper County Marriage Book G, page 28 she was married November 4, 1905 to C. Bunyan Kirkendall (K2/1.2), believed to be a brother to Dennard Kirkendall (K3/1.1).  In 1954 they lived in Houston.

 

Marshall Whitmire (W3/7.8), son of Crockett W. Whitmire (W4/5.7) and Minervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.1), was born February 6, 1890.  He was shown as a ten-year-old in the 1900 census.  He was married December 25, 1919 to Annie Pool (P3/­1.1), according to Jasper County Marriage Book J, page 117.   In 1954 they continued at Buna.  He died November 24, 1967, and she died June 24, 1978.  Children born to Marshall Whitmire (W3/7.8) and Annie Pool Whitmire (P3/1.1) are unknown.

 

Crockett W. Whitmire (W3/7.9), son of Crockett W. Whitmire (W4/5.7) and Minervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.1), was born December 18, 1892 in Buna.  He died March 7, 1916 and was buried in Morse Cemetery.

 

Wilburn R. Whitmire (W3/7.10), son of Crockett W. Whitmire (W4/5.7) and Minervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.1), was born August 16, 1893.  He was shown as a six-year-old in the 1900 census of his father's household.  He was a soldier in World War I.  He was married August 12, 1926 to Nettie Kirkendall (K3/1.3), believed to be a sister to Dennard Kirkendall (K3/1.1).  She was born January 23, 1904.  In 1954 they lived in Groves, Texas.  He died September 16, 1973, according to his tomb­stone in Antioch Cemetery.

Kenneth Whitmire (W2/10.1), son of Wilburn R. Whitmire (W3/7.10) and Nettie Kirkendall Whitmire (K3/1.3), was born about 1928.  In 1954 he lived in Groves.

 

Jesse Whitmire (W3/7.11), son of Crockett W. Whitmire (W4/5.7) and Minervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.1), was born April 9, 1896 in Buna.  He was shown as a three-year-old in the 1900 census of his father's household.  He was married October 15, 1919 to Bessie Kirkendall (K3/1.4), believed to be a sister to Dennard Kirkendall (K3/1.1).  In 1954 he lived in Port Arthur where he was an operating foreman for Texas Company.

William Henry Whitmire (W4/5.8), son of Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) and Letitia "Let­tie" Crockett Whitmire (C5/1.2), was born September 7, 1854.  He was married Octo­ber 2, 1876 to Rebecca Irene Crawford (C4/1.2), according to Jasper County Marriage Book C, page 24.  She was born in 1850 in Mississippi and is believed to be a sister to Minervia Frances "Fannie" Crawford (C4/1.1).

 

They appeared in the 1880 census of Jasper County, Enumeration District 39, page 14, precinct 4:

 

        "Whitmire, William W.   24, born in Texas

                   Rebecca      30, born in Mississippi, wife

                   Andy          2, born in Texas, son

                   Clarrissa  7/12, born in Texas, daughter"

 

The land of William Henry Whitmire (W4/5.8) was once sold at a sheriff's auction to satisfy a tax lien.  She died March 3, 1920 and he died October 10, 1933.  They were buried in Morse Cemetery.

Andy Whitmire (W3/8.1), son of William Henry Whitmire (W4/5.8) and Rebecca Irene Craw­ford Whitmire (C4/1.2), was born in March 1878.  He appeared in the 1880 enumeration of his father's household as a two-year-old.  He was married in 1899 in Jasper County, wife's name Euphonia.  Euphonia Whitmire was born in August 1882.

 

Clarissa Whitmire (W3/8.2), daughter of William Henry Whitmire (W4/5.8) and Rebecca Irene Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.2), was born at Buna October 14, 1879 and appeared at age seven months in the 1880 census of her father's household.  She was married to her first cousin, Elias Lowe (L3/1.2) at Buna September 22, 1899, according to Jasper County Marriage Book F, page 416.  She died there March 26, 1961.  For names of their children, see his section.

 

Eli Whitmire (W3/8.3), son of William Henry Whitmire (W4/5.8) and Rebecca Irene Craw­ford Whitmire (C4/1.2), was born at Buna November 17, 1883.  He was married about 1911, wife's name Sarah Elizabeth.  She was born June 17, 1894.  He died June 7, 1954, and Sarah Elizabeth Whitmire died March 30, 1968.  They were buried in Morse Cemetery.

 

Eliza Whitmire (W3/8.4), daughter of William Henry Whitmire (W4/5.8) and Rebecca Irene Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.2), was born at Buna in January 1889.

 

Nathan Whitmire (W3/8.5), son of William Henry Whitmire (W4/5.8) and Rebecca Irene Crawford Whitmire (C4/1.2), was born at Buna March 2, 1891.  He died there April 23, 1968 and was buried in Morse Cemetery.

 

Sarah "Sallie" Whitmire (W4/5.9), daughter of Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) and Letitia "Lettie" Crockett Whitmire (C5/1.2), was born March 5, 1858.  She was married about 1876 to Durham Morse (M4/1.2), believed to be a brother to Angelina Moray Morse (M4/­1.1).  She died February 22, 1893.

 

Letty Whitmire (W4/5.10), daughter of Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) and Letitia "Lettie" Crockett Whitmire (C5/1.2), was born in 1859, according to Patty McGinty who reported that she was enumerated as a 12-year-old in the 1870 census of "her grandfather's home."

 

Eli Whitmire (W4/5.11), son of Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) and Letitia "Lettie" Crock­ett Whitmire (C5/1.2), was born in May 1860 in Jasper County.

        Eli Whitmire, Jr.       (W3/11.1)       born November 17, 1883

 

Eli Whitmire, Jr. (W3/11.1), son of Eli Whitmire (W4/5.11), was born November 17, 1883.  He was married about 1906, wife's name Elizabeth.  He died June 7, 1954, and she died November 3, 1955.  They were buried in Morse Cemetery.  Children born to Eli Whitmire, Jr. (W3/11.1) and Elizabeth Whitmire are unknown.

 

Jesse Whitmire II (W4/5.12), son of Elias W. Whitmire (W5/3.5) and Letitia "Lettie" Crockett Whitmire (C5/1.2), was born in 1862.  Of this individual nothing more is known.
