SLATER, David Stanley
Born in Victoria, BC July 5th, 1941 passed away suddenly on Monday,
February 21st, 2005 while enjoying his retirement in the Baja,
Mexico. Dave was the beloved husband and soul mate to Irene and a
devoted father to three sons, Stanley (Rosie), William (Catherine),
Darryl (Jacquie) and his daughter Tamara Mahy (Mike). Predeceased by
his brother Robert and survived by sister Arlene Harper (Adrian),
brother and best friend Bill (Donna), brother Mike (Carol); seven
grandchildren, Robert, Krista, Melissa, Jason, Breanna, Logan, Nick;
three greatgrandchildren Michael, Katelyn, Seianna; twelve nephews
and nieces and a host of others that loved him dearly and called him
Dad, Uncle Dave, Grandpa or Ole Pop. Dave entered the workforce at a
very young age and although he had many areas of expertise, he
focused on being a plumber, Brother of Local 324, Plumber and
Pipefitter's Union. Dave and Irene were prominent members of the
Country Cousins Square Dance Club, where his antics will be dearly
missed. Throughout the dance community, we will all miss Dave as our
Corner, regardless of our position in the square, as you could never
guess where he would be next. Dad has always been the Mufasa of our
Pride and like Simba, we are all lost and finding a new way. He has
shaped our lives and through his stellar examples of compassion,
dedication to family and friends and most of all loyalty, he has
made many of us what we are today. Dad taught us the value of hard
work and that there are no limits or bounds when caring for family
and friends and he will always be with us. The family wishes to
thank Uncle Bill for his swift action to Mom's aid, Auntie Donna for
sending him and coming to us, Gordy and Arlene Vickery for the
daunting task of fielding the mountains of mail and enquiries, Al
and Susan Wilson for allowing us to run up their cell phone bill,
cousin Tammy for her focus, the Canadian Consulate in Ottawa and San
Jose Del Cabo, as well as all of you that loved our Patriarch. There
will be a Celebration of Dave's life hosted by the Country Cousins,
family and friends at the Royal Oak Women's Institute Hall 4516 West
Saanich Road on Sunday, March 13th, 2005 from 1 3 pm. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to the
Royal Oak Women's Institute. 49711
