Johannes Antonius Haakman was born July 16, 1896 and died February 15, 1960. He was the principal of a boys school in the town of Bergen in North Holland. He married Theodora Agnes Bernadina Hilckmann in Alkmaar, North Holland on May 18, 1926.

During World War II, Johannes stayed in Bergen with his family when the whole town was evacuated so the school for the farm children, who were required to stay, could be kept open. The Germans were anticipating a possible invasion by the English on the coast near Bergen.
