A brief history which concerns my own family is called History of the Sartain Family by W. Ernest Sartain, December 29, 1960. It is only 3 typed pages, but it shows the connection between all the descendants of Russell Sartain and Lewis Sartain who were double first cousins. After Lewis died in the Civil War, Russell married his widow. There were a total of 14 children in this family.

Eight were born to Russell and Melvina Sartain (his first wife); 3 were born to Lewis and Martha (Beard) Sartain; 3 more were born to Russell and Martha (Beard) Sartain-Sartain. And some of the step-children married each other, making this quite a mixed up family of relationships.

In my own line, I not only descend from Russell and Martha (Beard) Sartain, but I also descend from Russell's sister, Elizabeth Ann (Sartain) Garvin. My great-grandparents, McCager "Mac" Garvin and Elmira (Sartain) Garvin, were first cousins.
