PYRON GENEALOGY
Compiled by Glenn Gohr

I am thankful to many people who have assisted me in my Pyron family tree. A few I will mention are Garland Harris of Adamsville, Tennessee (now deceased) who was a double first cousin of my grandpa Earl Harris (two Harris brothers married 2 Pyron sisters); Virginia Pyron Snyder and Grady Pyron of Memphis, Tennessee; Ron Pyron of Alabama; Jewell and Shirley Pyron of Berryville, Arkansas; and Claudine Pyron Morgan.

Much of my PYRON lineage and information on my immediate relatives can be found in a book by Ron Pyron, et al.: Joshua Pyron and His Son William Riley Pyron: The Story of Their Journey Through the 19th Century; Their Homes, Their Families, and the Times in Which They Lived. Privately published by the author, 1987. 154 p. + 10 p. of corrections. That book is out of print, but I am willing and have permission to make photocopies of the book for anyone who might be interested in all or part of that book. It just deals with the descendants of William Riley Pyron with a little bit of background information on some other Pyron families not yet connected.

Another informative book on Pyrons is: Sykes, Mable S. Dowdle-Pyron Family Tree.

There is also a Pyron Family Reunion of descendants of this family which tries to meet semi-annually in June in various places in Tennessee. In the past they have met at Adamsville, Memphis, and Milan, Tennessee. The chief organizers of the reunions have been Grady Pyron and his sister Virginia Pyron Snyder and also Ron Pyron. They have not met for several years now. Hopefully they will have another reunion soon.

Thanks to Claudine Pyron Morgan for her assistance in finding so many different Pyron family records of the extended Pyron family. She also shared an important original record that gave the maiden name of Joshua Pyron's wife as Susannah KERNS. Susannah was also previously married to Bond V. Brown of Caswell County, North Carolina. I am still trying to track down Susannah's ancestry and any other information on Bond V. Brown and his children by Susannah.

Here is my PYRON lineage as far as can be proven:

PYRON E-MAIL LIST

If you have queries concerning the PYRON surname, you may post these at the Pyron Family Genealogy List which I manage.

Pyron Genealogy List is a part of the Rootsweb e-mail discussion lists. It offers free queries and discussion on the Pyron surname and variant spellings.

To subscribe, send an e-mail to: PYRON-L-request@rootsweb.com
Leave subject line blank (This will be ignored).
In the body of the message type: subscribe

Then a welcome message will be sent telling how to post messages. Once you are subscribed, you may send a query to everyone on the list by sending e-mail to: PYRON-L@rootsweb.com

Archived postings to the Pyron e-mail list can be found on the WEB at:

    http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl

When prompted, type in PYRON for the name of the list. A second screen will appear where you can choose a year and type in a search word(s). If you type in PYRON you would probably get all the previous postings to the list. You can also type in a person's name instead or a locality to narrow your search. If you wish to do a search by date, try entering it in quotation marks with the day and then the month as "01 Mar" using single digit dates preceded by a zero and only the first three letters of the month.

ROOTSWEB PYRON MESSAGE BOARDS

There are several Message Boards on Rootsweb which are set up for the PYRON surname. These boards are for posting information in the following categories: BIBLE, BIOGRAPHY, BIRTH, CEMETERY, CENSUS, DEATH, DEED, IMMIGRATION, LOOKUP, MARRIAGE, MILITARY, OBITUARY, PENSION, QUERIES, and WILLS. The search perameters and drop down screen on the main page allow you to do a key word search or to view all postings according to one of the above categories. Click on the icon below to access the Pyron Message Boards.

Query Post a query (or information from any one of the above categories) on any PYRON name or related family. Please give dates, and locations they lived. Try to give as much information as possible.

An online genealogy forum for posting queries has also been set up specifically for the PYRON family on GenForum. It can be found at the following address:

    http://genforum.familytreemaker.com/pyron

***Note***During the Fall of 1998, GenForum combined with Family Tree Maker, which means that all queries and information posted to that site becomes the property of Family Tree Maker. This is still a good site to look up information and get contact names for the PYRON lines you are searching, but be advised that if you now post a new query or a response to something on that site, chances are that sometime in the future Family Tree Maker will include that information on a CD-ROM which they will sell for profit to anyone who is interested. I do not like the idea of someone else using my hard researched information and ideas and selling them for a profit without my knowledge. This same practice is evident on all of the Family Tree Maker pages which are found on the internet, if you will read the disclaimer notices on those pages. I recommend the Family Tree Maker pages as good look up pages, but I don't recommend posting information there. Similar things can be said for Ancestry.com and MyFamily.com which are connected to each other and seek to make a profit from genealogical materials on the internet.
