*Please allow a couple weeks for any updates to this page after the last update from the HARRIS Y-DNA RESULTS Page. See date of last update for this page at the bottom of this page.

This is an ongoing project seeking to chart out lines of descent that have been DNA tested as shown on the Harris Y-DNA Results Page. Information is based on DNA results, lineage information supplied by kit submitters, Bible records, vital records, legal documents, census records, family histories, internet sources, etc. In some cases the paper trail and/or information found on the web or other sources may be in error. Please view this information as a tool and not as proven fact.

NOTICE: Information presented in these webpages is not to be construed as PROVABLE FACTS. It is up to the user to verify all information that he/she receives. Some information has been provided by kits submitters and their own research. Other information has been added from other sources. Additions and corrections are welcome.

Lineage information in pointed brackets < > lists the Group Number and the DNA Kit Number as found on the Harris Y-DNA Results Page. Additional information will be included as more DNA markers are tested and as more participants match up with this grouping.

This group belongs to the I1haplogroup. For information on Genetic Distances in Group 30, view this page: Genetic Distances - Group 30

Here are lineage charts (supported by DNA) that fall into Group 30 of the Harris Y-DNA Results. All spouses are not shown—only the ones that are listed as the parent of the generation that follows. For questionable generations, the names are preceded by an asterisk *. This means the connection between the person with an asterisk and the previous generation are unproven.

The modal listing of Group 30 up to 37 markers is listed on the HARRIS Y-DNA RESULTS Page.

For an exact match to this group, the submitter must be a male with the HARRIS surname, be from the same haplogroup, and the DNA markers from his kit number should match exactly with these results. In most cases there will be at least one variation in DNA marker values. If the two test kits are from close relatives, then the variation is due to normal mutations of DNA. DNA mutations usually occur every 3 or 4 generations. Some specific markers tested are known to mutate faster than others.

HARRIS DNA GROUP 30 LINEAGE CHARTS

Lineage #1=William Harris (ca. 1556-1616)—DNA Kit #25394
Lineage #2=[Unknown] Harris—DNA Kit #121703
Lineage #3=Robert Harris (ca. 1820-ca. 1890)—DNA Kit #128933
Lineage #4=Joseph/Josiah Harris (ca. 1801-Bef. 1850)—DNA Kit #99982
Lineage #5=Joseph/Josiah Harris (ca. 1801-Bef. 1850)—DNA Kit #116339
Lineage #6=[Unknown] Harris—DNA Kit #135657

Lineage #1.—DNA Kit #25394—YSEARCH ID #XGCMX. This is for the line of Thomas Harris, II (1667-1713) of Isle of Wight Co., Virginia (Generation #8). It is reported that this line goes back to Sergeant John Harris (ca. 1588-ca. 1638) of Charles City Co., VA and to Sir William Harris (ca. 1556-1616) of Creeksea, County Essex, England. (See also DNA Group 4, which also claims to go back to John Harris of Charles City Co., VA.)

A big question has arisen because the Edward Harris (ca. 1704-1782) (Generation #5) who married a "Miss" Minyard and a Sarah Gilliam is also reported by some instead to have married a "Widow" Gilliam and to Betsy Braddock (See Lineages in Group 8); however, the DNA samples tested do not match with Group 4 or with Group 8. Apparently someone has gotten these two families confused. More research definitely needs to be done to see if Group 4, 8, or 30 has the correct lineage.
This kit’s user ID is XGCMX. Additional information on this DNA kit and the paternal line can be found on Family Tree DNA’s user ID page for XGCMX

This family’s migration pattern is: England > Charles City Co., VA > Isle of Wight Co., VA > Lunenberg Co., VA > Burke Co., NC > York Co., SC > Benton Co., TN > Craighead Co., AR.

This kit belongs to the I1 haplogroup. This is a 37-marker test that matches the 67-marker modal for Group 12 with no variances. To see the lineage supplied by the DNA Kit submitter, go to this site: http://www.harrisdna.org/info/25394.html. A few more details are added below.
