Lineage information in pointed brackets < > lists the Group Number and the DNA Kit Number as found on the Harris Y-DNA Results Page. Additional information will be included as more DNA markers are tested and as more participants match up with this grouping. This is an ongoing project seeking to chart out lines of descent that have been DNA tested as shown on the Harris Y-DNA Results Page. Information is based on DNA results, lineage information supplied by kit submitters, Bible records, vital records, legal documents, census records, family histories, internet sources, etc. In some cases the paper trail and/or information found on the web or other sources may be in error. Please view this information as a tool and not as proven fact.
Only one line of descent has been submitted for Group 23. The two kits submitted are distant relatives.
Here are lineage charts (supported by DNA) that fall into Group 23 of the Harris Y-DNA Results. All spouses are not shown—only the ones that are listed as the parent of the generation that follows. For questionable generations, the names are preceded by an asterisk *. This means the connection between the person with an asterisk and the previous generation are unproven.
The modal listing of Group 23 up to 25 markers is listed on the HARRIS Y-DNA RESULTS Page.
For an exact match to this group, the submitter must be a male with the HARRIS surname, be from the same haplogroup, and the DNA markers from his kit number should match exactly with these results. In most cases there will be at least one variation in DNA marker values. If the two test kits are from close relatives, then the variation is due to normal mutations of DNA. DNA mutations usually occur every 3 or 4 generations. Some specific markers tested are known to mutate faster than others.
HARRIS DNA GROUP 23 LINEAGE CHARTS
The lineage numbers supplied tie the line in with DNA Group 23. Then a letter of the alphabet is assigned for each successive lineage.
Lineage #23A=George Harris (ca. 1750-1824)—DNA Kit #9532
Lineage #23B=George Harris (ca. 1750-1824)—DNA Kit #68034

Lineage #23A.—DNA Kit #9532.
This is the line of George Harris (ca. 1750-1824) (Generation #2).
This is a 25-marker test that belongs to the J2 haplogroup. It matches the 25-marker modal for Group 23 with no variances. It should be noted that the paper trail for this line goes back to the exact same ancestor listed in Kit #56858 in Group 8; however, the DNA does not match and the haplogroup is different. Generation #4 appears to be the link that is in question. To see the lineage supplied by the DNA Kit submitter, go to this site: http://www.harrisdna.org/info/9532.html. Lineage #23B.—DNA Kit #68034.
This is the line of George Harris (ca. 1750-1824) (Generation #2).
This is a 25-marker test that matches the 25-marker modal for Group 23 with one variance in marker 21. It should be noted that the paper trail for this line goes back to the exact same ancestor listed in Kit #56858 in Group 8; however, the DNA does not match and the haplogroup is different. Generation #4 appears to be the link that is in question. This kit was supplied by a cousin of the submitter for Kit #9532. A partial lineage is shown below.
