ALLISON/ELLISON GENEALOGY
Compiled by Glenn Gohr

I am aware of both Northern and Southern families by the name of Allison. For someone researching the Northern bunch of Allisons, please contact: Melba Allison Rector of Springfield, Missouri, who is a dear friend of mine and a longtime member of the Ozarks Genealogical Society. Her ancestors came from Iowa to Northern Missouri in the 1800s. Before that they are a Northern family.

My wife appears to descend from a Southern bunch or Allisons living at one time in Maury County, Tennessee (at least in 1833 when Rosanna Allison was born). Sometimes I have seen this name spelled as ELLISON. I am still searching. I found out about this Allison connection through my study of the Callico and Johnson families of Madison County, Arkansas.

Here is my wife's ALLISON lineage as far as can be proven:

  1. Hugh ALLISON, b. ca. 1807; md. Frances "Fannie" _________, b. ca. 1810
  2. Rosanna ALLISON, b. 29 Sept. 1833 Maury Co., TN, d. 7 Jan. 1916 Madison Co., AR; md. 7 April 1853 Madison Co., AR to Lt. John JOHNSON, b. 29 July 1833 Madison Co., AR, d. 14 Oct. 1906 Madison Co., AR (he served as a lieutenant in Company G, 1st Arkansas Infantry in the Union Army) (both buried in the Wesley Cemetery, Wesley, Madison Co., AR)
  3. Sarah Frances "Fannie" JOHNSON, b. 22 Feb. 1854 Madison Co., AR, d. 1920 Madison Co., AR; md. May 1870 Madison Co., AR to John Calvin CALLICO, Jr., b. May 1847 Madison Co., AR, d. 22 Feb. 1927 Madison Co., AR (both buried in Wesley Cemetery, Wesley, Madison Co., AR)
  4. Franklin Montgomery CALLICO, b. 9 July 1877 Drake's Creek, Madison Co., AR, d. 15 Nov. 1969 Ely, White Pine Co., NV; md. 1900 Madison Co., AR to Kima Nevada ROBERTS, b. 1882 Japton, Madison Co., AR, d. 23 Dec. 1944 San Bernardino, San Bernardino Co., CA (buried at Mountain View Cemetery, San Bernardino, San Bernardino Co., CA)
  5. Bonnie Ruth CALLICO, b. 5 Aug. 1905 Drake's Creek, Madison Co., AR, d. 1 Dec. 1968 San Bernardino, San Bernardino Co., CA; md. 22 Aug. 1928 in California to Robert Archie HENRY, Jr., b. 26 Aug. 1902 Sickles, Caddo Co., OK, d. 10 June 1944 Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA (both buried at Mountain View Cemetery, San Bernardino, San Bernardino Co., CA) *These are my wife's grandparents.

ROOTSWEB ALLISON MESSAGE BOARDS

These boards are for posting information in the following categories: BIBLE, BIOGRAPHY, BIRTH, CEMETERY, CENSUS, DEATH, DEED, IMMIGRATION, LOOKUP, MARRIAGE, MILITARY, OBITUARY, PENSION, QUERIES, and WILLS. The search perameters and drop down screen on the main page allow you to do a key word search or to view all postings according to one of the above categories. Click on the icon below to access the Allison Message Boards.

Query Post a query (or information from any one of the above categories) on any ALLISON name or related family. Please give dates, and locations they lived. Try to give as much information as possible.

An online genealogy forum for posting queries has also been set up specifically for the ALLISON family. It can be found at the following address:

    http://genforum.familytreemaker.com/allison

An online genealogy forum for posting queries has also been set up specifically for the ELLISON family. It can be found at the following address:

    http://genforum.familytreemaker.com/ellison

***Note***During the Fall of 1998, GenForum combined with Family Tree Maker, which means that all queries and information posted to that site becomes the property of Family Tree Maker. This is still a good site to look up information and get contact names for the ALLISON/ELLISON lines you are searching, but be advised that if you now post a new query or a response to something on that site, chances are that sometime in the future Family Tree Maker will include that information on a CD-ROM which they will sell for profit to anyone who is interested. I do not like the idea of someone else using my hard researched information and ideas and selling them for a profit without my knowledge. This same practice is evident on all of the Family Tree Maker pages which are found on the internet, if you will read the disclaimer notices on those pages. I recommend the Family Tree Maker pages as good look up pages, but I don't recommend posting information there. Similar things can be said for Ancestry.com and MyFamily.com which are connected to each other and seek to make a profit from genealogical materials on the internet.
