Walla Walla, WA.(85) Found dead on the
prarie about 40 miles from Harlem, MT on Saturday, February 25, 1905. Was found
by a stage driver and had probably been dead three or four days. Two jagged
gashes in the neck indicated the cause of death while nearby was a dull pocket
knife covered with blood which would indicate that "Tony" had met foul
play or had committed suicide. He died on 20 Feb 1905 in Harlem, Blaine, MT.
(5) He was buried on 4 Mar 1905 in City Cemetery,
Waitsburg, Walla Walla, WA.(5) Was found
by a stage driver outside of town. Had been dead for 3 -4 days. Neck had 2
knife wounds. Blood covered knife found next to body. He had been involved
in cattle rustling scheme in Columbia/Garfield Counties in 1894. Wounded a deputy
in the leg. Was wounded in the leg himself. Reports indicate that his leg was
removed. Based on family knowledge it is believed that he retained his leg and
that; in fact, the deputy sheriff that he wounded in the gun fight was the individual
who lost his leg. William served three years in the Washington State Prison
for his part in this event. It is noted that an individual; who is thought to
have tipped for the lawmen, disappeared just days after the event and was never
seen again! This information is documented in a number of "The Waitsburg
Times" articles of the day. Was never married.
