Born on July 8, 1817 in Lusby Mill, Owen County, Kentucky.1 He died on March 4, 1880 in Lusby Mill, Owen County, Kentucky.1,27 Josiah was buried in 1880 in Clifton Cemetery and his head stone has been located.1, 28 The youngest son of David Senior we can still find him in his fathers’ home on the 1840 census. After his father death in 1847 Josiah and brother David Junior were appointed executors of his estate. Records indicate he stayed on the family farm and helped care for his mother until her death in 1849.

Josiah and his brothers David Junior and Mitchell seemed to take a lot of interest in the family farm. All three acquired land in and around the original farm in the early years, prior to and just after their father’s death. Within six moths of the death of his mother, Josiah purchases back all the farmland from his brothers and sisters. Mitchell and David Junior were the only two children not to sell back their inheritance to Josiah, though Mitchell sell 45 acres to Josiah that once belonged to their sister Easter. Josiah lived on his fathers’ farm until the early 1850 and based on land sales sold the farm and moved near by and continued to farm and raised his children. After his death this land was divided by his second wife Ann and passed on to their children.

Josiah married for the first time to Lusaney Wainscot, on September 1, 1840. No records, other than the marriage record, have been found on Lusaney, We know she died between 1848 and 1849, and may have died in childbirth when her daughter Elizabeth was born. Their has been some confusion on her first name, when their son David died his death certificate listed his mothers’ name as Drucella but the marriage records clearly show Lusaney.

Josiah then married Demaris Ann Prather, daughter of Benjamin Higgins and Elizabeth [Knightly] Prather, on January 10, 1850 in Owen County, Kentucky16. Demaris, she is always listed as Ann, was born in 1830 in Lusby Mill, Owen County, Kentucky1, died after 1900 in Lusby Mill, Owen County, Kentucky.
