The Last Will and Testament of Pleasant White
of Fluvanna County, Virginia

In The Name of God Amen, I Pleasant White of the County of Fluvanna being of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making and all and every other Will or Wills by and heretofore made.

First I do hereby desire that all my just debts be paid out of my Estate.

Secondly, I give to my daughter Lucy One Feather Bed and furniture, one Cow & Calf, two sheep, and other articles of house furniture, such as I have heretofore advanced the rest of my children and also the tract of land I purchased of Robert Appleberry containing about 49 and ¾ acres.

Thirdly_ I give to my Daughter Martha Johnson One feather bed & furniture, One Cow & Calf, Two sheep, and also fifty dollars Cash, to be paid by my executors out of my estate and other articles of household furniture such as I have heretofore advanced to some of my other children.

Fourthly_ I give to my son Pleasant One Feather Bed and furniture; one Cow & Calf, two sheep And other articles of household furniture such as I have heretofore advanced to some of my other children. Also my set of Blacksmith Tools.

Fifthly_ I give to my son Chapman the tract of land formerly the property of my brother William and as much of the tract on which I lived as will make him the quantity of one hundred acres, to be laid off as follows, viz.beginning at the Creek where the Land touches it thence up the Creek a little above a rift to a Bottom Thence a straight line nearly a west course to the backline so as to include one hundred acres with the first mentioned tract.

Sixthly_ I give further to my son Pleasant all of the balance of my tract of land where on I reside, supposed to be One hundred and sixty acres.

Seventhly_ I desire after my death, that all my perishable property after the above provisions be complied with be sold by my Executor or Executors and the proceeds be equally divided among my children to wit Sally King, John, David, Elias, Nancy King Samuel, Frankey Lucado, Lucy, Chapman, Martha Johnson, Polly Bragg, Richardson and Pleasant to them and their heirs.

Eighthly after my death I desire that all my Negroes shall be valued by three disinterested men to be selected by my executor or executors and parceled into as many lots as my above named children and then same to be numbered and given to my said children to them and their heirs forever. If any of my children should hereafter object to the division of the Negroes which they have received of the Estate of William Richardson of the property which I now give them or either of them by this Will shall be null and void and returned to the hands of my executor or Executors to be equally divided among the balance of my children.

Ninthly if any of my children should die without lawful issue it is my desire that that part of my estate given them shall revert back and be equally divided among my other children.

Lastly I do hereby constitute and approve my three sons John, David and Pleasant my Executors to this my last Will and Testament, In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this 18th day of June one thousand eight hundred and thirty five. Signed, Sealed, Published, & declared by the testator to be his last Will and Testament in our prescence who _____ our names as witnesses as requested.
