The Last Will and Testament of Peter Mumpower Sr
of Washington County, Virginia

In the Name of God Amen. I,Peter Mumpower of Washington County State of Virginia being old and
infirm but of sound mind and deposing memory, do hereby make my Last Will and Testament in manner
and form following. Principally and first of all I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my
body to the dust to be buried in a decent manner, and touching this worldly estate wherewith it
hath pleased God to bless me. I give and bequeath in manner and form the following.
(Imprimis)?? I give unto my son Henry Mumpower the plantation whereon I now live and all other
lands which I may die possessed of, and likewise all my personal estate except my watch, riding
bridle, riding whip & my shoemaking tools. which I leave unto my Grandson Jacob Mumpower.
I give unto my children John Mumpower, Catherine Hickman, Mary Hartsock, Barbara Lindamoode,
Elizabeth Stoffle and the heirs of my son Peter one dollar each & no more to be paid one year
after my decease. And lastly I appoint my son Henry Mumpower my Executor of this my last Will and
Testament. In Witness whereof I have come to set my hand & ear this fourth day of April in
the year of our Lord 1821.

Supplement to the foregoing it is to be expressly understood that my son Henry Mumpower is to
maintain my wife Magalena decently during her natural life. Given under my hand & seal the
day and year before here written.

At a Court held for Washington County the 17th day of August 1824. The last Will and Testament of
Peter Mumpower deceased was exhibited in court and proved by oath of John Goodson & Matthias
Grimes two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Henry
Mumpower the executor therein named who took the oath of an executor prescribed by law &
entered into & acknowledged his bond in the sum of Three hundred dollars with John Goodson
his security conditioned as the law decrees. A certificate is therefore granted him for the
probate of said Will in due form.
