| Alexander Waugh was born in 1789 and died in 1875. He married Polly Jennings who was born in 1814 and died in 1888.
They were both born in Bedford, VA., but came to Pike Co., MO., in 1849 by covered wagon. Polly's heritage dated
back to England because her great-grandfather, who was named Thomas Chappell, came to Jamestown, VA., in 1635 on
the ship "America." Alexander was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War. His parents owned slaves and when Alexander and Polly came to MO., they brought some slaves with them. The children of Alexander and Polly were: James, Tom, Sarah, William Alexander, Louise and Elizabeth. They all lived in Pike County. James Waugh married Margaret Roberts and their children were: Elliott, Alexander, Eva, Tyler and W. T. Elliott married Minnie (surname unknown) but had no children. Alexander was called "Lan" and he married Lola Todd. Their first child was Norvan who married Margaret Beadle. They had one son named James Carl. Alexander ["Lan"] and Lola's second child was a son named James Lloyd. He married Dale Miller and they had one son named Miller Waugh, who married Rozella Glascock. They had one daughter, named Laura. James Lloyd Waugh held the position of cashier of the Mercantile Bank at Louisiana for many years. He has been actively associated with this bank for 45 years, first as an employee, then as cashier, and then as president of the Board of Directors. Alexander ["Lan"] and Lola's third child was a daughter named Margaret who married Edward G. Turner. They had no children. Eva Waugh, daughter of James and Margaret Roberts Waugh, married T. E. Gurney. They had two children: Ninetta, who died in infancy, and Moyotta who married Edwin Schwarz. Tyler Waugh, son of James and Margaret Roberts Waugh, married Ora Hughes. W.T Waugh, son of James and Margaret Roberts Waugh, married Dot B. Thomas. They had one son, W.T. Waugh, Jr. He married Dora Lee Woods of Louisiana, MO., and they made their home in Pike Co., ILL. They had one daughter, Karin, who married David Zucker. Going back to the descendants of Alexander and Polly Jennings Waugh, there is William Alexander Waugh who married Mary Hodges and their children were Mary, Laura and Sarah.
