WM. MYERS


Is the son of Jacob Myers, who was born in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, in the year 1795. He remained there until the spring of 1848, when he came to Barry township, Illinois, where he remained until his death, which occurred June 8th, 1871. He had lived an honorable and useful life, and had raised a respectable family.

Wm. Myers was born in Cumberlain county, Pennsylvania, in the year 1819, and remained with his parents until the year 1842, when he married Miss Mary Wike, daughter of George and Polly Wike and sister of D. J. and George Wike, now of Pike county, Illinois. She was born in Cumberlain county, Pennsylvania, in the year 1815, and came to Illinois with her mother and brother, in the year 1848, where she joined her husband. They located in Hadley township, Ill., where they remained about two years. Mr. Myers then purchased a farm on section 6, in New Salem township, on to which he moved, and remained for five years. He then sold out in New Salem, and purchased a more valuable farm, in Barry township, on section 34, where he has since resided.

Mr. Myers has always engaged in farming and raising stock, a which he has been very successful. His mother's maiden name was Lydia Line. She was born in Cumberlain county, Pennsylvania, in the year 1800, and is at this time residing with him, enjoying good health. She is possessed with a good mind, for a person of her age, and takes pleasure in conversing on subjects of the past, and improvements made in the county in her day. She has lived a useful life, and has administered to the wants of many in distress and adversity.

Mr. Myers is one of the many prosperous farmers of Pike county. Possessed of a warm and benevolent heart, he is ever ready to assist the poor and needy. He is held in high esteem by his neighbors for his many good qualities. Mr. Myers is the father of six children, four sons and two daughters, one child deceased. He is the grand-father of two children.
