Was born in Chester county, Pennsylvania, April 7th, 1811. He is the oldest son of James and Rachael Kenney, also natives of Pennsylvania. He received his early culture in his native state. At the age of twenty-five he married Miss Mary G., daughter of James and Margaret Cranaham, of Wilmington, Delaware. Mr. Kenney has had a family of ten children, eight of whom are yet living. In 1837 he removed with his family to Illinois, and in 1839 located in Griggsville, where he engaged in merchandising, and was so engaged up to 1866, when he retired from active business. His son and son-in-law are now conducting the business, under the style of Kenney & Clark. Mr Kenney is another of those who commenced life with but little means, and by close attention to business has accumulated a competence. In the fall of 1870 he was elected to a seat in the legislature, as representative from Pike county. His energies are not only devoted to private interests, but all commendable public objects received his attention. Mr. and Mrs. Kenney are Both consistent members of the Congregational church. At present he is residing at his residence in Griggsville, beloved and respected by all who know him.
