Was born in the Old Dominion, Feb. 28, 1816. His father Michael Brown, was a native of Ireland. At the age of eighteen he embarked and landed in Philadelphia in the year 1790. His vocation was that of stone cutter. He married Miss Rachael Greer. Mrs. Brown was born at Chester, Pennsylvania, 1779. They had a family of ten children, nine of whom reached mature age, the eldest yet living at the age of seventy-one years.
In 1820, Mr. Brown moved, with his family, to Shawneetown, Illinois, and in 1824, he moved to Pike county, where he engaged in farming. In March, 1826, he died at his residence. His wife survived him until 1852.
The subject of this sketch resides on the same quarter-section on which his father first settled. In 1849 he made an overland trip to California. In 1858 he married Mrs. Catherine Jones. They had a family of three children, only one now living. He is now residing at his residence, near Chambersburg.
