CORNELIUS THOMAS WILL
Last Will of Cornelius Thomas
In the name of God Amen.
I Cornelius Thomas of the County of Pike and State of Missouri, being
of sound and disposing mind but being in feeble health knowing the uncertainty
of life and that in the course of nature. I cannot live many years, do hereby
make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other
wills heretofore made by me.
First - I do hereby ordain and request that after my death my body shall
be decently buried and that the expense thereof together with all my just
debts shall be paid.
Secondly - after the payment of all my debts I do hereby will and bequeath
out of the proceeds of my personal property to my several grandchildren,
the children of Susannah Grimmet, wife of Josiah Grimmett as follows: viz
To Creed Grimmett forty dollars, to Margaret Gilliland late Grimmrtt
forty dollars, Samuel Grimmett forty dollars, to America Thomas late Grimmett
forty dollars, to Nicholas Grimmett forty dollars and to James Grimmett forty
dollars and also to the children of Anna Sandifer, wife of Mathew B. Sandifer
as follows, to wit, To John A. Sandifer forty dollars, to William J. Sandifer
one dollar, to Martha Gilliland late Sandifer forty dollars.
Thirdly - after the payment of my just debts and the foregoing legacies,
I will and bequeath the remainder of my personal property and slaves, (if
they are not sold in my life time) to my three sons, Joab Thomas, John A.
Thomas, Smith S. Thomas equally.
I do hereby constitute and appoint Edwin C. Bright as my executor of this
my last will and testament.
In Testimony whereof I hereto set my hand and affix my seal this 15th
day of November 1859.
