As told by Claire DYAS: David Alexander DYAS, Sr. & Frances PIGGOT; came to America in 1817 landing in Williamsport, VA; they lived in Williamsport, VA until 1822, then moved by covered wagon to St. Louis, Missouri, they followed the route through the Cumberland Gap in Northern, Tenn. Traversed the Northeast part of Kentucky, then across the Ohio River to Vincennes, Ind;iana then West through Illinoise to Kansas in Randolph County in Illinoise and here they crossed the Mississippi River and went up the river to St. Louis, Missouri and setteled there.

David served as a PVT. 27th Reg't Illinoise Inf. during the Black Hawk War. The DYAS-Brady Cemetry has recently added a miliary marker for his grave. The Dyas-Brady cem. is now on private land and is adjacent to the Bellevue State Park. To visit the cemetery a person should contack the Park Superintendent who will take you to the Cemetery. The campground at the Park is called the DYAS Unit and was so named as the land was kpurchased from the Dyas family.

Notes from DYAS FAMILY GROUP SHEETS in Correspondance from Claire DYAS, dated: November 8,2003: 'Obituary of D C Dyas' David Charles Dyas, Son of David and Mary Dyas was born at Bellevue, Jackson County, Iowa, July 12 1859 and pased away at home, northwest of Formoso, Oct 21 at the age of 70 years, 3 months adn 9 days, He, with the rest of the family came to Jewell county in the fall of 1872, and his father took a homestead in Vicksburg township, All his life except two years were spent in Jewell county. On March 8, 1885, he was united in marriage to; Mary Henry. To this union were born four children, all of whom reside in this community. Mrs Roy Field, Mrs Ralph Jacobson, David and Liston Dyas, also ten grandchildren, three brothers and one sister: Frank Dyas, Randall, Kans: Clyde Dyas, Jewell, Kansas; and Mrs John Kemmerer, Mankato, Kans; besides a host of nephew, nieces and friends. He was always fond of young folks and took much pleasure in having the children with him. He and his wife were converted in a meeting at Old white Rock many years ago. and to that pledge they have always been true, never failing to do their duty, giving freely to their means and time in support of the church adn its activities and the life he has lived was such that the impressoion made has borne fruits and will continue to do so for many years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Moore, of Mankato, assisted by the New Christian minister of Formoso, Rev. Parks , and Rev. mead, of Formoso.1

From Dick & Claire DYAS: George Franklin DYAS; Obituary: George Franklin Dyas, son of David and Rececca Dyas, was born Jun 4, 1868 at Bellevue, Iowa and passed away at the
Commumity hospital in Beloit, Kansas, April 6, 1952, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and four days.
In 1872 came to Jewell county, Kansas, with his parents where they homesteaded a farm northeast of Randall. It was there he grew to manhood. He recieved his education in the Jewell county schools.
In February 1887 he was united in marriage to etta Handley. To this union one daughter was born. May 27, 1889 his wife passed away. Three months later his daughter passed away.
On March 4, 1900, he was un;ited ijn mariage to Ruby Mills. To this union five daughters and two sons were born. In the spring of 1906, the family moved to Trego County, and returned to Jewell County, moving to Formoso in October 1920.
In 1923 the family moved to Randall. The business of his life was that of blacksmithing. He was a kind husband and loving farher. He retired i;;n June 1947 and lived i n Randall until the dare of his death. He had been ;in failing health some few months prior to his passing.
His wife, one son, one daughter, three grandchildren, one great grandchild, three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his passing: five children, Ruth Moore of Randall, Orpha Rees of Scottsville, Velma Purcell of Randall, Roy Forest Dyas of Wichita; and Lois Hughes of Pratt. Eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two brothers, Tom Dyas of Mankato and Clyde Dyas of Celt, Missouri, and a host of other relatives and friends.
