Know Ye that William Henderson, a private of Capt. W.S. Cannon's Company (B), 4th Regiment of Cavalry MSM, who was enrolled on the Twenty ninth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and sixty two to serve during War, is hereby Discharged from the service of the United States, this Twentieth day of December, 1862, at Greenfield, Mo, by reason of being not capable of performing the duties of a soldier, having reed (sic) a gunshot wound on the head causing the loss of use of one ear. Said William Henderson was born in Carter County, Kentucky, is twenty two years of age, 5 feet, 8 3/4 inches high, dark complexion, black eyes, black hair, and by occupation when enrolled a Farmer. Given at Greenfield, Mo this 22nd day of December, 1862 William S. Cannon Capt. Company B 4th Cav MSM Left Olive Hill in 1859 with his grandfather's and father's families. Settled first in Caroll Co, Mo before 1850. Listed as a farmhand on Christian Hoffner's farm in the 1860 census for Buchanan Co., MO. Married in 1861 to Polly Alexander. Joined the 4th Mo MO State Militia Cavalry in March 1862 and saw action. Was shot in the head, lost the use of one ear, and discharged in Dec, 1862 for his wounds. After his discharge moved to Bigelow (Holt Co) and then to Rulo, NE between 1871 and 1873. Remains in Rulo through at least 1883. Apparently he also served in Company G, 16th Kansas Cavalry as he got a pension settlement for clothing at muster out from that unit. Moved down to Erie, Neosho Co. Kansas. Participated in the Cherokee Outlet Land Run on 9/16/1893.and settled on a claim NW of Perry with his son, James Harvey. William owned out his claim. He later died in Perry from a fall at age 79.
