McKinney of Cecil Co., MD

The McKinney participant tested because he wanted to determine if the McKinneys of Cecil Co., MD, are related to the MAKEY/MacKEY family in Delaware. A match would support the hypothesis that both lines connect to Iain Maccoinnich who most likely arrived in New Sweden (Delaware) circa 1650. He arranged for testing of a Delaware MAKEY/MacKEY but the two samples did not match. However, the results are inconclusive as the non-match could be due to an unknown false paternal event or faulty research in either line. Additional testing by other qualified participants in the future could eventually prove or disprove the Maccoinnich hypothesis.

McKinney participant # 11687 - The participant has not yet provided ancestry information. Other information, not received directly from the participant, indicates that according to family tradition, he descends from Alexander McKinney or his brother Thomas Benjamin McKinney who have been traced to Cecil County MD, ca. 1700 (there may have been a third brother who removed from the area).  His Ysearch entry indicates:
Most distant known paternal ancestor on the direct male line
First Name: Iain
Last Name: Meconik
Year Died: About 1670
Variant last names: Maccoinnich McKenney Macklehenny Meconik McKinley

MacKey participant # 11688 - The McKinney participant states the MacKey participant was recruited on his behalf by another person who has since died. MacKey agreed to test anonymously; hence, there is no ancestry information known for the MacKey participant other than that he is associated with a Delaware line.
