WILLIAM HAYDEN ENGLISH, 1822-1896
WILLIAM EASTIN ENGLISH, 1854-1926
William Hayden English (WHE) was a wealthy Indianapolis banker, politician (Congressman, Democratic VP candidate in 1880), and author. His son, William Eastin English (WEE) followed in his father's footsteps. There is an abundance of information regarding WHE and WEE in libraries and on the internet; some examples are below.
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION - ON THE NET
A search on the Internet using name variations (full name, initials, etc.) generates many results. For example:
The Compiled History of the English Family, by Carl L. Boyd (sold by the Senior Class of Lexington High School circa 1950).
WHE - an old-fashioned county history bio includes a photograph.
The bio is at this site but it now requires a membership: http://www.countyhistory.com/
WHE on the tail end of an 1880 Thomas Nast cartoon in Harper's Weekly.
WHE - HarpWeek Biography (Harper's Weekly) includes a photograph.
WEE - Indiana SAR ceremony at William E English Monument - photos of the English family plot
WEE - scandalous tales about his wife Helen Orr (in an Indiana Historical Society article)
There are entries in many publications (may or may not be on the internet) including:
ABRIDGED COMPENDIUM OF AMERICAN GENEALOGY (Virkus)
AMERICAN ANCESTRY (Munsell's)
APPLETON'S CYCLOPAEDIA OF AMERICAN BIOGRAPHY
