KATIE DUVALL ENGLISH 1862-1929 Owen County, Kentucky
JAMES WALTER or JAMES WALTER ENGLISH c. 1787-c.1853 MD, KY, IL
Elisha English is known to have had a least one slave, JAMES WALTER, or JAMES WALTER ENGLISH, born ca. 1787 in MD, died c.1853 in IL. Apparently he came to Illinois with Elisha, and was liberated, in 1830. James is listed as a Farmer in Elisha's household in the 1850 Census in Carrollton, Green Co., IL. He is buried near Elisha & Sarah English in the Carrollton Cemetery. It is not known if James had a family.
OTHERS
In addition to Dr. John B. English, it is known that his brother James Wharton English, the 4th child of Elisha & Sarah, was a slaveholder. It is likely other siblings were also slaveholders but I have not researched their records.
