COMMENTS

At the time of the 1891 Census, Elizabeth Hunter/Witney was living with her employer, Lucy Barlow, born in Stutton Elsecar, Yorkshire (West Riding) but now a Widow aged 63. Lucy Barlow, described as "Living on her own income", and Elizabeth Hunter/Witney were the only two people in the household. "Stutton" may be the name of a street in Elsecar.

Elizabeth Hunter/Witney's first child, Ruth Witney/Gilbertson, was born only six months after her marriage to William Witney.

For many years, from shortly after the death of her husband, Elizabeth Hunter/Witney had lived at 3, Spring Grove, Huthwaite two doors from her daughter Jessie Witney/Boothroyd/Woodhouse who lived at 7, Spring Grove, Huthwaite

Elizabeth Hunter/Witney's husband William Witney (q.v.) had worked as a Coal Miner but from at least the early 1920s until his death in 1939 had been a farmer Source: Family Records and the Marriage Certificates of their children

To find her grave, from the road follow the path on the right of the church into the two fields of the cemetery extension. Turn left into the left hand extension field. Turn right down the first path. The grave is in the bottom right hand corner of this left hand field. The tombstone inscription says: "In ever loving memory of WILLIAM the beloved husband of ELIZABETH WITNEY who died 17 Jan 1939 aged 69 years, also the above ELIZABETH WITNEY who died 5 Aug 1961 aged 86 years."

One of Elizabeth Hunter/Witney's sisters married C. W. Pattinson, named as informant and Son in Law on the Death Certificate of her Father, Thomas Hunter
