COMMENTS

From the 1891 Census, Milcah Haigh/Swift married John Swift, a Colliery Labourer born in Wortley in 1853 or 1854 and had a son Percy S. Swift born 1882 or 1883 and a daughter Laura Swift born 1886 or 1887. Laura Haigh then age 19 with no occupation given and relationship quoted as "Visitor" was visiting them on the night of the 1891 Census at Crane Moor Bolls (?) and all the dates fit. On Milcah's Birth Certificate her name is given incorrectly as "Milcha" and her Mother's name as "Thauley". From other Certificates the definitive spelling of her name has been established as "Milcah" and her Mother's name as "Thowley".

Milcah was illiterate as evidenced by "X The Mark of" Milcah Haigh/Swift on her daughter's Birth certificate.
