The Withrow Family

The Withrow family was one of the first families to come to Wayne County, arriving between 1908-1909. Robert Marion Withrow served in the War Between the States and lost sight of one eye at the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia. Pictured below is his family in Gilmer County in 1900.

M Withrow, born July 11, 1836, died May 1914 (From tombstone at Liberty Baptist Church, Wayne County, GA:); He was born in Asheville, Buncombe County, NC; Martha Hill b. Jan. 2, 1832 in NC, died Sept. 25, 1902, in Gilmer Co., GA, buried at Nine Mile Church, Gilmer County.
Children:
William J. Withrow m. Frances Orr. William born June 22, 1866, in Gilmer Co., d. March 31, 1927, in Wayne County, GA; buried at Liberty Baptist Church, Wayne County; married Frances Orr. Jan. 26, 1890, in Ellijay, Gilmer County; Frances b. Aug. 15, 1866 in Gilmer County, d. Jan. 1, 1909, Gilmer County, buried Mountaintown Baptist Church Cemetery, Gilmer County. He married Missouri Bennett Wilkerson May 18, 1914, in Wayne County, GA. She is buried at Liberty Baptish Church Cemetery next to her first husband, Mr. Wilkerson. He married Cornelia Smith Jan. 5, 1924, in Wayne County.

				Mattie Lee Withrow, b. Dec. 1890, Gilmer County.
				Clifford Colquit Withrow-born Aug. 11, 1896, died Feb 11, 1934 (Liberty Baptist Church tombstone); He was born in Gilmer County and died in Ware County, GA. He married Winnie Rebecca Miller (Nov. 25, 1902-Feb. 11, 1934) on June 21, 1924.

Sarah Ann Withrow m. Russell Warner Dart. She was born Sept. 15, 1870, in Gilmer County and died June 28, 1938 in Wayne County. Russell Dart was born March 4, 1862 and died March 14, 1910, in Wayne County.

				Flora Estelle Dart, b. Nov. 15, 1891; d. April 14, 1927, Jesup, GA
				Joseph Marion Dart, b. Nov. 27, 1894, d. Sept. 16, 1975, Wayne County.
				Henry Edward Dart, b. May 23, 1897; d. Feb. 25, 1979, Wayne County. He married Retha Myrtle Taylor (Nov. 15, 1902-Aug. 1, 1969) on June 22, 1925.
				Nettie Bell Dart, b. Oct. 26, 1902, Gilmer County; d. Dec. 24, 1998, Wayne County; buried Red Hill Cemetery, Wayne County, GA. She married George Riley Tyre (June 4, 1892-Aug. 11, 1970) on Nov. 7, 1920 in Jesup, GA.
				William Robert Dart; b. March 11, 1905; d. 1990; buried Old Bethel Cemetery, Wayne County.. He married Annie Laurie Strickland (March 23, 1911, DeSoto Co., FL--Nov. 15, 1995, Wayne County)
				Sarah Eunice Dart; b. April 7, 1908, Elijay, Gilmer County; d. May 16, 1989, Jesup, GA; buried in Bethesda Cemetery. She married Kenneth Franklin Brannen (Aug. 6, 1910, Jesup, GA--April 1, 1982, Jesup, GA)on Aug. 12, 1930, in Wayne County.
				Russell Maurice Dart, B. April 7, 1908, Elijay, Gilmer County; d. Fort Myers, Lee County, FL. He married Emma Pauline Dubose in 1929.
Robert Lee Withrow m. Mary Evett Robert L. Withrow--born July 28, 1869, died Mar. 30, 1947 (From tombstone at Liberty Baptist Church, Wayne County, GA). He married (1) Mary Evett and (2) Evelyn Rogers Fowler (Oct. 8, 1876-Jan. 25, 1920)

				Gertrude Cleona Withrow, b. Feb. 1, 1900, Elijay, Gilmer County; d. Oct. 22, 1931, Wayne County. She married Lester T. Nichols.
