Finding your Ancestors on the Internet….Part 1 and Part 2
BEGIN with: new.familysearch.org (the new familysearch site.) You must be registered to use this site. This data base include ALL the former LDS databases: IGI; Ancestral File; Pedigree Resource File: Church membership records; extractions; Info contributed by FamilySearch users etc. (To register, have your Membership number and Confirmation number ready. Go online to: new.familysearch.org Click on the green link: Register for the new FamilySearch and fill in the information
To Begin search: Sign in; Click on "Search" tab at top; Fill in Search Engine

Rootsweb/Ancestry (for Rootsweb, stay on the left side….using Ancestry may include a fee)
Fill in first and last name…..click "Search"
Click on World Connect; on the next page scroll down to the bottom and add addition info to narrow down your search…..that is, if there are many entries.

1. The Family Search Record Search-Pilot site (this is where we find the records that volunteers are indexing. Familysearch.org…then "search records"tab then down to "record search pilot"

2. Social security death index: google.com; type in SSDI
Click on top link. Social Security Death Index Interactive Search
Click on "Advanced Search" (Keep in mind SS didn't go into effect until 1937)
3. Geographic nameserver (United States): http://stuff.mit.edu/geo
4. Google images and maps
Google.com: click on images or maps in the top left corner
5. Find a Grave : findagrave.com
After registering ( no fee) , search by person or cemetery
