Did Patrick has another son Robert...and the IGI shows James Gillone born to Robert Gillone and Helen Steel.....Robert would fit into this family
IGI search for rest of ordinances
Liinlithgow records show a Helen Gilone marryiing a David Thomason in 1705....I think this is a remarriage of Helen, wife of Patrick, rather than the marriage of a dau Helen, because we don't find a birth rec of a daughter....
IGI search OPR search: very few with this spelling; mostly spelled: Adam
I am assuming this birth is the correct one

The first entry on the Edinburgh Street directories for Alexander Gillon, flax-dresser occurs in 1813 when he lived at 55 Candlemaker Row; the following year he is to be found at 98 West Bow. He remains here until 1825 when he moved to 96 West Bow when he is described as 'merchant'. This is presumably his business address because his house is shown, that year as 100 West Bow. He remains at no.96 until 1831 when his address is given as Heroit Bridge, Edinburgh and his business is described as 'Flax and Yarn Manufacturer'. At this point the business goes under the name of 'Alexander Gillon & Son'
In 1833, the address is more clearly defined as No. 1 Heriot Bridge and Alexander is shown as having a house at Graham Street.
In 1835, the business address is shown as 60 Grassmarket,
In 1836 there is no entry, but in 1837, the business is shown at 64 Grassmarket.
In 1838 through to 1844, the business is still at 64 Grassmarket but additionally at 3 Bernard Street, Leith. Also from 1838, the business is described as 'sons' rather than singular. Alexander died the following year.
In 1845, and 1846 no.3 Bernard Street is replaced by No. 5 Vennel, Edinburgh
In 1847, only the 64 Grassmarket address is listed-this continues until the following year 1848 when there are no further mentions of the company.

Notes for JAMES GILLON:
There is a possibility that this James became a Power Loom Tenter of Castle Hill Street, Rothesay because there is a record of a will proved 22 November 1859. Elizabeth Smail died at Rothesay, albeit many years later in 1900, but this James could have followed in the family tradition, a member was described as a power Loom manufacturer and 'tenter' may be connected with flax, yarn and sacking making.
BURIAL: Catherine daughter of Alexander Gillon, merchant from 31 Buccleugh Place, is buried in the New Ground, the head close to the centre of Alexr. Greme Groats Tom aged 17 cholera

Helen Dumbreck born 1774 married Robert Gillon in 1793 at Linlithgow and we have been able to trace the death of a descendant, Ellen Dumbreck Gillon, who was born in Limerick, Ireland on the 21st December 1869 and who died at Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand on the 12th August 1950. Ellen married on the 15th December 1892 to James Harris in New Zealand and information from her death certificate showed that she had living issue, 3 males and 1 female. No further details are known about the Harris family.

FAMILY: According to Jean Morley,Australia, Elizabeth had 6 children.
Letter form Jean Morley in Australia shows Elizabeth was the dau of Gilbert Gillon and Mary Taylor.
Elizabeth died on 15 Aug 1879 at 13 Walker Place, Shottstown, Penicuik. Gilbert, her father, deceased was stated to be a Marine. Gilbert was a shoemaker in 1804. See film #1066635
Jean shows that no baptismal entry in parish register for Elizabeth; only Mary and AlexanderEmslie or Elmslie- I suspect the former? 1831 William Elmslie and Elizabeth Gillon B.O.T.P. Proc. 1 December 1831 Elizabeth died on 15 August 1879 at 13 Walker Place, Shottstown, Penicuik. Gilbert, her father, deceased was stated to be Marine. Gilbert was a shoemaker in 1804 (jean Morley)

See #17372...Jean Morley shows that this Elizabeth, dau of Mary and Gilbert, is the one that married William Elmslie......MARRIAGE: 1831 William Elmslie and Elizabeth Gillon B.O.T.P. Proc. 1 December 1831 both of this parish; Linlithgow Parish records #1066633

Jean's work is top class so you can take it that this Elizabeth was the daughter of Gilbert Gillon, but to be fair, she did initially think that her Elizabeth was the daughter of Robert Gillon and Helen Dumbreck. (Geoff Gillon)
