At a Court held for Orange Co., on Fri. 8-3-1787, on the examination of Jane _______ Gillock who stands charged with feloniously stealing & conveying away out of the millhouse of Andrew Bourn of County of Culpepper, half a bushel of Indian Corn meal. Present: James Madison, Wm. Bell, Wm. Moore, Thomas Barbour, Johnny Scott & Sheriff Conway, Gents.
The above named named Jane _____ Gillock, was had to the Bar and upon examination denyed the fact. Several witnesses were examined upon the premises and this Governor heard in her defense on consideration where of the Courts are divided. James Madison. (Minute Book No 2, p 424 - 1774 - 1789.)
Order Book #7, 1763 - 169, p 53: William Willis, Pltf. against Francis Moore deft. on Petition upon hearing this petition it is considered that the same be dismissed & that the Deft. recover against the Pltf. his costs. On the matron of Rush Hudson a witness for Francis Moore gent at the suit of Willis it is ordered that this F. Moore pay him fifty pounds of tobacco for two days Att. at Court.
On the matron of Jane ____ Gillock a witness for F. Moore, Gent at the suit of W. Willis it is ordered that F. Moore pay her "Nerily" 8 pounds of tobacco for two days Att. at this Court & coming twice out of Culpepper Co., eight miles & returning according to law. William Price witness, Moore to pay 50 pounds tobacco for 3 days Att. (this Wm. Price may have been a relative of Jane or the Gillocks family, see Fluvana Co., Va. Will for Joseph Price 1823, naming Benjamin, Betsy, Robert, & Thomas as Heirs. DGJ).
Page 114: James Walker Plft against Lawrence ____ Gillock (may be Sr. DGJ) Deft. In debt. This day came the Pltf by his attorney & the Deft. by a note in writing confesses to the Plft. action, therefore it is considered that the Pltf, recovered agst. said Deft, 7 pounds, 5 shillings & 9 pence Court money.
