This James Gillock was a prominent farmer& slave owner. The General Index to Real Estate Conveyances, Barren Co., KY, p's 43-45 Grantees (receives) Grantor (sells) shows 84 Gillock's as Grantees & 13 Grantors, 12 of those were for James, accumulating 1,220 acres of choice land lying across the Skaggs Creek from Lawrence Gillock Jr.s large estate mentioned earlier. James had his own family burying ground known as Gillock cemetery, there to day (1982). See James's unique, well written will naming his children & names of his slaves, which follows later. I am not "TOO" sure of what his friends, relatives thought of him. Judge for yourself when you read the following. Too long to put here: p 27A
