John Gillock's Rev. War. Pension continues.......................
Changes of property: I sold two of the horses for money to support my family in 1819 & never yet have been paid- being $ 250. & never expect to get pay. That I sold two of the others in the year of 1825 & 1826 to support my family - I have new one mare valued $30. No cattle, a plough, axe, hoe & spade & bed & furniture, saddle bags - all of little value. I am now living with my daughter & unable to labor for a living & I feel that the Government should bestow its bounty on me as well as others. Signed John Gillock.
I, Daniel B. Price, of the Jessamine Circuit Court do hereby certify, that it appears to the satisfaction of the Court, that the said John Gillock did serve in the Rev. War as stated in the preceding declaration, against the common enemy for 9 months under the engagement on the Continental Establishment. I also certify, that the foregoing Oath & Schedule thereto answered are truly copied from the records of the said court, & do further certify that it is the opinion of the Court that the total amount in value of the property scheduled in the aforesaid schedule is less than $100.
In testimony where of I have here unto set my hand, & affixed the seal of the said court on this 6-9-1829. Signed David B. Price
Affidavit of Isaac Ruckers, taken before Andrew Mc Campbell, Justice of the peace for Jessamine Co., KY that said Gillock's property would not exceed $100. 10-15-1829. Teste: Daniel B. Price, C.J.C.C.
TAKE NOTICE CAREFULLY (DGJ)
It seems all went well, he received his pension, until & when his pension was stopped in 1834, he went before the Court in Georgetown, Scott Co., KY in the name of Samuel Lindsay Gillock & made the same application as he did in 1829 (EXCEPT) using his own name, SAMUEL LINDSAY GILLOCK, see the following DGJ.
J. T. Johnson also states: That he assisted the "old Man" Samuel Gillock in obtaining his former pension certificate in the name of John. That he so understood the old man; but has no doubt from all circumstances detailed by the old man, his age, infirmity, blindness & hard of hearing & sometimes drinking to much: that a mistake was made & the old man did not discover it until his pension was with held on his appearing in the name of Samuel Gillock instead of John. (Comment: It is hard to understand how anyone with the name SAMUEL could get it confused with the name John, but, guess it did happen. I just wonder: did he spend part of his pension on DRINK or did they make it those days??? DGJ) This ends the pension. DGJ.
