I did not learn about Minute & Order Books in Country Courthouses containing much information, until late in my genealogy search about 1974, after having searched many. Found Fri 9-3-1976; Woodstock, Shenandoah Co., VA Courthouse: All of these were very difficult & time consuming to read, small hand write, very abbreviated.

Index p 56 found Minute Bk. 1835-43, p 484: Harrison Gillock, ordered that the Sheriff pay Harrisn Gillock $2.25 out of any deposition in his hand; being for material furnished for "T" House Yard or HORSE YARD.
Index p 59 found Minute Bk 1843 - 49 p 387, Daniel Getz: Invy of appraisement of personal estatedec'd returned Exe/(__?__), SAme name as above except on p 426: Jacob Getz orphan of Daniel Getz, dec'd over age 14 made (Hnc'e) of Jacob Fisinger as his gaurdian who gave bond with security acc. law. (Comment: This Getz may be the family that m into the Gillocks. dealt with later, the name correctly spelled is Gates. DGJ) (Note: The Getz name has been interrupted as Gates many times through the years but in this case it is Getz.. I have found her parents. nlp)
