See following documents about JOHN GILLOCK Sr.: War Department, The Adjutant General's Office, Washington D.C. 3-6-1928; In reply refer to ESB/LVC ORD respectfully returned to Mrs. O. R. WYCOFF, E. 24-8th Ave., Spokane, Wash.
The records of this office show that one JOHN GILLOCK served in the Revolutionary War as a private in Capt. FRANCIS TAYLOR's Company, 2nd Virginia Regiment, commanded by Col. ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD and Col. CHRISTIAN FEBIGER. The date of enlistment is not shown. His name first appears on the company pay roll covering the period from March 28th to May 1st 1777, and was reported on the company pay roll for Nov 1777 "Discharged Nov 19, 1777."
The records also show that one JOHN GILLOCK, evidently the same man, served in that war as a private in the Capt. WILLIAM TAYLOR's Company, same regiment. His name first appears on the company muster roll for Dec 1777, which shows that he enlisted Nov 19, for three and that he was on furlough. His name last appears on the company pay roll for June 1778.
The collection of Revolutionary War records in this office is far from complete, and it is suggested as a possibility that additional information maybe obtained from the Librarian, Virginia State Library Richmond, VA or from the Commissioner of pensions, Washington D.C.
No fees are charged by this office for its official acts? LutzWahl, Majr General, The Adjutant General, by edm. Mrs. W.O. Wycoff was the above Etta Liken (GILLOCK) Wycoff, her searching to get in the DAR's will appear at her place in the book, later.
